Now, that is still pertaining to physical activity and swimming...not relaxing in the hotel room or taking a nap. So I guess we'll see!

Okay, this is from the RTC websites "Rules on Liberty". Number 3 is in bold (by me) stating the rule for clothing.  This page was actually updated on 11/30/2011.

Liberty is ‘time off’ from the daily routine. Graduating Sailors will be granted liberty to go off-base during the day with their families.

  1. Graduating Sailors may not smoke, drive, or consume alcoholic beverages while on liberty.
  2. Graduating Sailors must stay within a 50-mile radius of RTC.
  3. Graduating Sailors must remain in their complete uniform while on liberty. If they are engaging in physical activity or swimming, they must be in authorized Navy issued workout gear.
  4. Recruits reporting to A School at Training Support Center Great Lakes will detach from RTC on Friday. All other recruits will depart on Saturday. To get the most accurate information please contact your recruit.
  5. Families may not enter the base after graduation and will need to meet graduating Sailors for liberty at the main RTC gate.
  6. Graduating Sailors departing RTC for follow-on training the same day as graduation or in a duty status will be granted limited on-base liberty.
  7. Graduating Sailors receive an in-depth liberty briefing prior to their graduation day.

Now, Number five I don't get as I was granted entry to RTC every day. I always parked in the parking structure and then I walked over to the NEX to get him. I mean...there is no where for the Sailors to wait by the Gate! I know that it is up to Security to make the final decision based on the conditions at the time. I have not heard of anyone being denied access. But then most only have the one day when it is RTC. I guess the amount that stay there a couple of days or even one is not a big deal and they allow it. IDK...

Great...I'll probably have to ask RTC about that one. Ugh...they probably hate me.

Well...the swim suit is Navy issued so it is not civilian clothing...so I am guessing that is "in uniform". same thing for workout gear.Let me check the RTC website.

From the Family Guide concerning acceptable ID.

All guests 18 years and older, must present valid government issued photo identification (driver’s license, state ID card, passport). Guests 17 years or younger who do not possess one the items listed above must present one of the following: school ID card, driver’s permit, copy of their birth certificate or social security card.

Yes, velomoon, that is correct.  They do not count as part of the 4 guests.

Interesting about the sailors having uniform on at all times on liberty..even in the private hotel room....does that mean in the shower too?  Many are exhausted and sick on PIR day...and just want to go back to the hotel room, take a shower, and a nap.  Maybe the new rule was started because sailors would go out of the room and down the hall to the ice machine/vending machines in civies?  We have always said that you cannot be out of your room in anything but full uniform.  What about swimming in the pool?  Again, we have advised that they must have Navy-issued swimsuit on, but do they put on full uniform over it?  Confused....but I feel sure that the sailors are being instructed on what they can/cannot do on PIR day.

so children under 13 may attend graduation without their names on a list.
