Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by shinystuff on April 19, 2012 at 8:33am: @shirleyblack52: Some kids/people just aren't writers, so maybe you could make up a questionaire for him and all he would have to do is either circle yes or no, multiple choice, or fill in a short blank. Just ask all the questions you would like answers to, and send a self addressed stamped envelope with it and instructions to fill it out and send it back right away. If you do that, as others mentioned below, get it in the mail asap. PIR is getting close.

Comment by shinystuff on April 19, 2012 at 2:15am: @diannep: We are super excited about getting the extra time with him. I'm assuming he'll have to be back on base early Saturday evening so he can prepare to leave RTC, and that we can pick him up on Saturday morning. His dad (my husband) has to fly out Saturday afternoon to get back home for work, but I'm staying until Monday morning with my other three kids kids. Our SR is the baby and his brother (who went thru RTC in 2000) and his two older sisters are really looking forward to being with him.

Comment by diannep on April 18, 2012 at 11:10pm: shinystuff: Denarcy is correct. That is the time he will be bussed to the airport to wait for his flight. That is when you can meet him there and spend extra time at the gate with him.

This is the reason we recommend that all book flights home on Sunday or later. Because you never know when they might have that "extra day" in GL! Most likely, flights were full on Sat. which made them move to Sunday. Lucky you!

Comment by Denarcy on April 18, 2012 at 9:39pm: Shiny stuff, what I've read is they wake the sailors up at 0100 or 0300 to go to the airport. They will take ALL sailors at once (who r traveling out) regardless of the time each flight leaves Illinois. Some sailors leave early in the morning others in late afternoon. But they all go at one time to the airport. Hope they helps you.

Comment by shinystuff on April 18, 2012 at 9:29pm: I received a short letter from my SR today. He said he got his orders! He will be leaving Sunday morning at 0100 hours. Now, I'm not certain if that means he's leaving RTC at 0100 or flying out at 0100....he also didn't say which airport or airline. I only got half the story. Needless to say, a letter is going out to him tomorrow asking all of those questions! So happy to hear though, that we will have an extra day on Saturday with him! We thought for sure he'd be leaving early Saturday morning.
