Great pic Julie, I would not volunteer for that lol. I wish you could have seen my brother describe that to us. He is short, bald and very stocky build, he works out a lot and rides a bike everywhere and he was doing a perfect impression. I was crying I was laughing so hard :-)
That is so cool Juliebelle, I would love to see a Marine bootcamp graduation :-)
My brother is a professional photographer and he was Camp Lejeune taking photos for a historical event while my daughter was at Navy bootcamp. he had access to most of the base and he was walking around outside to look for a place to take a break. He saw a Marine practicing/training to be a commander/RDC or whatever they call it in the Marines. He said the guy was a big dude with broad shoulders and he was in full uniform and he was walking around and around this tree, yelling at it, cussing at it, spit flying from his mouth as he yelled and cussed, told it to drop and give him 50 and the whole time he had his chest stuck out and his fists down by his side with his face right up next to this huge tree trunk, never once lowering his voice. Well I can tell you when we heard this story we were rolling on the floor laughing. It was just so funny. Man I wish I could have seen that lol. Every time I thought of my little girl getting yelled at during bootcamp I thought of that story and it always put a smile on my face and still does lol.
prayin'navymom: When you "hug" your SR again, that SR will be a SAILOR! :-)
juliebelle - That hug story was awesome! I cannot wait to hug my SR again!
To add on to Lala's post about package deals not refunding hotel cost if you need to cancel, I remember a lady posting for someone to please take (buy) their hotel room as she could get no refund. You may be better off looking for "deals" separately on flights, car, hotel.
There is a large NEX very close to RTC--it is on Greenbay Rd...which is where I recommend you all shop if you don't need to go to RTC NEX to pay/pickup piks after PIR. Very crowded in there. HINT: One man from last week's PIR group said to remind you all that you can avoid the lines to pay/pickup piks after PIR by returning to RTC a little earlier after liberty to visit the NEX then and pay. No lines!
Lala will tell you that there is a small NEX (mini mart) that those staying at Navy Lodge get a voucher for and they can go there w/out their sailor. I understand it is small, but would be fun to visit.
If you book online or through the 800 number they may tell you that you can't stay without military ID but at that base you can and you get the cheaper PIR price as well. If you want a room with a kitchenette those go fast otherwise you can wait a while. But with such an easy cancellation policy I would go ahead and book it and have that out of the way :-)
If you get package deals that include flight, car, hotel then you probably won't get your money back for the hotel if you have to change your dates. Most of those are non-refundable and are not changeable.
I did...we only had 7 Divisions in our PIR so it was pretty well stocked the next day when I went. There is a NEX on the Main Base down the road and ...dang it...I always forget where the other one is! diannep or LaLa will know.
I still laugh because they did have every family member and my middle son said,"Look, 'Navy Second Cousin Twice Removed' "!
They even had items for Fido!
I got two shirts, a ball cap,a mug and a bear in digi-blues. I got Hubby a shirt, ball cap and a hoody.
"With the Navy Lodge we had until 6pm the day we arrived. Just make sure you call them direct and not book online and don't call their 800 number."
Lala you said this earlier- why not? Plus do they run out of rooms if you do not go ahead and reserve? We used them the first time and would not want to miss out on staying with them again.
