The Southwest deal may be called Gotta Get Away, Not sure :-)
Thanks julie, I look forward to making them for you. I am a scrapbooker too and I love it!!! Have you joined the scrapbooking group on this site?
emilysmomvivian- Some people do book early. It is usually better to wait to book flights like your recruiter said but for the hotel you can book them as early as you like. The hotels up there won't charge your card until you check in at which time you can pay with cash if you prefer not to use the card. They also will allow you to cancel up until the day you arrive with no charge or fee. Just call the hotel in that area direct and when making the reservation ask what their policy is. With the Navy Lodge we had until 6pm the day we arrived. Just make sure you call them direct and not book online and don't call their 800 number. If you are flying check out the prices from Southwest. You have to go to their site and look for the Want to get away deals. They run specials often and I am sure will have more come up before your PIR. They don't charge a checked bag fee for the first couple of bags I believe and they don't have a fee for changing your flight. You only pay the difference in what the flight costs. You may have to drive a little further to an airport that flys Southwest but it is usually worth the savings. Sometimes they have flights for as little as $69.00 one way and you just get two one way tickets for there and back. They fly to Milwaukee which is about the same drive to the base as Ohare.
Welcome to all the new members of this group :-)
Hi Ladies, I'm so confused!!! I'm reading all the posts and it seems like you have all made your reservations. Our daughters recruiting officer told us not to make any reservations until we receive a letter 3 weeks prior to her graduation to make sure she is on track to graduate. I just read all the posts and it seems like you are all set. YIKES! did I miss something. Should we go ahead and make them now?? This is all so new to us I don't want to mess up on anything.
By the way she is on SHIP 02 DIV925 PIR May 4th
julie, I forgot to say in my email to you that I use USPS so the PO Box is fine :-)
The Navy Lodge is only about a mile from the gate. We drove to base and had no problems at all. We left the Navy Lodge about 6:30, had 13 divisions graduating and was on base, parked through the line to get in and in the PIR hall by 7:30. Avoid the far right lane where you will see all the cars lined up waiting to get in. That lane ends and everyone in it will have to merge left one lane to get on base. Best to start off in the correct lane and save yourself some wait time :-)
Okay...I have added the link to the Page that has info on your Meet & Greets.
juliebelle28 (Ship 9 Div 138) or Amanda. Could you please send me the Southwest code as well?
We were going to drive but with the Southwest deal it just may be worth it to fly.
Thanks!
I hope you all had a good weekend and that the rest of it is nice! I have the house to myself for a few blissful hours!
Don't get me wrong...I love, love, love, my men...but sometimes I just like ...the quiet. Hubby always tries to take everyone for a day once a week but that's not always "doable'!
Here is some additional info on the Navy Lodge:
I stay military when I can...hubby has been AF Reserves for 27 years, son is the Sailor...so I have dependant ID. You don't need it for this Navy Lodge. You tell them it is for PIR and they may ask for your Recruits Name and Rate (Navy enlisted have "rate" not rank...it coincides with their pay grade E-1 to E-9 for enlisted. E-3 is the highest rate they can "rank up" too in BC). They may also ask you to bring them by to verify...but I always forget if that is enforced.
It is clean, I did not get a kitchenette as those are first come first serve. We had to queens and a rollaway.TV with DVD player, microwave, small fridge etc. HAd nice furniture and a lobby with a fireplace. Hot coffee 24/7. Vending machines (variety...even one with alcohol! You have to get tokens at the desk for this.) Coin laundry, You can buy Computer time (these look exactly like the ones I saw in Recruit phone Computer room at the NEX) and pay for printer usage. Computers are in front of the elevators on each floor. WiFi has a charge. They do not have a Shuttle Service...but you can ask to arrange for a taxi...again here is where Sarge can come in handy!
Lobby has DVD's for rent, post cards and a Curio with some Navy items for sale. They will give you a temporary pass to use at the small NEX down the road...there is also a gas station (don't need a pass for that).
Here is a pic of the pass (courtesy of Craig):
They do a brown bag breakfast daily...was great for PIR. Bagel, cream cheese, chewy granola bar and large OJ...all in this bag:
Was great for PIR! I don't have pictures of the outside...only our messy hotel room!
My only suggestion on the MeetNGreets is that those of you in the same division try to agree on going to the same one so you can meet! Some start at one and then move over to another. For those looking for lots of info, SARGE's seems to be the one to go to.
