While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A quick note here: Last Names of Recruits/Sailors are not allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. There are a lot of people who do not realize their freedom is not free! They take it for granted.

I could call him, he could call me, we had a web cam so we could see each other. We could text. I flew up to watch football games every other week. No this is not like college!!

The years were going by quick and that's when he decided to join the Navy. I'm very proud of his decision. :)

I had 3 children in college when my son enlisted and it was no where near the same thing. No one can understand as much as each of you do. That's why being on here is such great medicine. My son is on an aircraft carrier now and he just went out for his first cruise about a week ago. It was only a 2 week cruise, but it seemed like it lasted for months. It was like he was in boot camp all over again. I knew that he was just fine, doing his job and very happy, but my heart was so sad that I couldn't communicate by talking with him. I still currently have a daughter in college and I could call her every single day and hear her beautiful little voice. Like you said, we are very proud of all of our children, but our service members have willingly put their own lives and families on hold to defend us. They truly deserve our all of our respect and heartfelt thanks! I saw a Navy sailor today and made sure that I thanked him for his service. He said he was stationed about 15 minutes from where we live and he is an IT instructor. I felt even more respect for him, because not only is he serving, but he is teaching our children too.

Maybe the weather is just as iffy up there as it is down here in Georgia? It is going to be tricky to pack layers in one bag so I hope that the weather does show spring time.

I am leary if we knock,etc on the wrong door and the hat,sock, whatever, really means do NOT disturb. (just being silly here)

Comment by aj2daway on April 25, 2012 at 10:14pm: seriously? REally? people think that it is like being in college?-not by a long shot. With all the things that are going on in college these days, have that parent try to NOT be in touch with their kid except via old snail mail. Plus have that child come out stronger in 8 weeks of yelling, directing, studying, PTing with an even greater focus and purpose....

While I have not received that comment, I get more the patronizing "oh that's nice" or a tone suggesting "not my kid" as if their child is better than doing something like join the military.These people are usually the ones that don't believe in God or country. I didn't realize that this was such a hot button-thanks RyGyMom. lol

I can honestly comment after reading the post on N4M that this group of ladies have done their jobs teaching our children to reach for the sun by setting good examples ourselves. Look what they are doing! Good Job Ladies!
