Yay! RTC posted this on facebook: "We will be posting random photos more frequently beginning this week so keep your fingers crossed that your division happens to be in the right spot at the right time when our photographers are out and about."
They also asked that everyone PLEASE: "refrain from asking that we photograph your specific division. This includes subtle hints, begging, wishing out loud and sending us e-mail requests."
That is awesome news Julie, sounds like he is missing you and needs some family time :-)
Yay Juliebelle! That's really great news! We know you'll be having a fabulous February!
Yah, juliebelle! I know how excited you all must be!
Happy Birthday to your SR Amanda(:
AaronsMom---I also received a letter today. My son knows your son....says he is right across the compartment from him. His words "real quiet, nice guy". :) He sounds great, really excited about everything.
Crazy Blonde---Glad you are back and feeling better! You are always so full of information!
@ CrazyBlonde....Thanks for the info. Just not sure what to do and not do. My SR doesn't give me alot to go on in his notes...Don't get me wrong! I enjoy all of his notes, but he has never been one for sharing the finite points. :)
Can't wait to meet you all at PIR!
I got a letter today. He said they were going to get an hour long phone call if they didn't get any hits on their buttons being undone, but they got 5 button hits so no phone call. :(
He also said he couldn't wait to open his Easter basket. Uh oh. I guess I better fix one up for him real quick and hope it makes it to PIR. Hopefully Easter candy isn't all gone from the clearance shelves yet. :)
CrazyBlonde: They check the seabag/garment bag and carry the backpack onboard. I'm sure there are times when their luggage gets "lost" ....but hopefully it is found!
Happy birthday to your SR, Amanda! We sure know he won't be drinking to celebrate! :-)
RyGyMom: Since you live so close to his A School, you can bring him some "civies" once he phases up to wear them (he'll tell you)--eventually he will get liberty on the weekends and can come home to get what he wants since you should be in the radius he would be allowed to travel in!. If he wants to take some with him to A School, he just has to put them away until he is allowed to wear them. He should be able to have his phone once off of RTC.
Back on Friday (about 7 pages ago, I posted this:
Now that our SRs (soon-to-be-Sailors!!!!!) are getting close to "A" school, I've found it VERY helpful to join the groups associated with the A-School my son will be attending.
Wow! Have I learned alot!!! My son is going to Hospital Corpsman School (HM) and I went to those groups, and started reading the posts from January till now, and now I feel like I know what to expect. I had to go back about 50 pages, but it was so worth it! Start at January, and read up to today, ASK QUESTIONS they are so ready to help!
This will be EXTREMELY helpful to Wives and Girlfriends, and comforting to us Moms.:)
It was a real eye opener. I posted links to the HM groups in the HM discussion listed above.
Just a FEW of the things I learned about:
==What they can take to A School. (Give these to them at the AIRPORT)
==What they need after they get there.
==Mail and packages. (Can be a nightmare!) WOW!
==Internet Service
==Waiting to "Class-Up" can have them on Hold for WEEKS, even almost 4 MONTHS for some HMs! (before they even get to start classes!)
==About Phase-Up and WHEN they will earn LIBERTY at A School and how they can lose it.
==How HIGHER GRADE POINT AVERAGES determine IF they get the assignment they desire. How they get to CHOOSE their duty assignments from the DREAM LIST in order of WHO has the HIGHEST GRADE. The list has the assignments available AT THE TIME, and higher grades get to choose FIRST, lower grades get the left-overs.
The list is actually endless. So go to Groups and type in the search-bar your SRs "Specialty" and join the groups, especially the ones related to their A-School. In my case I searched for HM and Corpsman A-School.
My son is a very independent and strong young man and can do this Navy on his own entirely, and has, but...I'm a MOM, :) and love to be there IF he ever needs my help. Being informed lets you assist them if the need arises. I know he's appreciated the little tidbits of info I've sent him, and I'm positive he didn't need me to tell him MOST of them, but it's nice to know, I did find some very helpful gems! Once a mom, always a mom! Do you think the MEN will ever "get it"??? I know the women will, when they are moms! :)
From doing the above^^^ I discovered that there are flash cards and study materials that SRs were getting and using while waiting to Class-Up at A-School, so I ordered them for my son to study for his HM designation.
