I am sure an airhead will fit in a regular envelope but we didn't send one even though our daughter begged for one lol. She said she didn't care if she got IT but I wouldn't risk it lol. I know a lot of moms send a Band-aid or two in a letter for the blisters they get and some will get in trouble for them and some won't. It is a little, no it is a lot confusing.
And, of course, I know you were sending all positive news! I was just posting that as a reminder to all to be careful what they send. Yes, this is a hugely important time in the lives of all of the SRs! HOOYAH!
Crazy Blonde: I would write to your SR and ask that he please write back and let you know things you shouldn't send since you are getting conflicting info from us on here/ the Family Guide and what is being throw away up there. But, ultimately, it is up to the individual RDCs on what they are allowed to have. I wouldn't send anything else like that, just to be on the safe side, until you hear back from him. Hopefully, he will let you know soon. The info you sent him sounds harmless to me...but, like Lala said too, each RDC is different in what he/she allows.
His girlfriend said...that he said nothing could be copy/pasted such as an article, and NOTHING from the internet or Facebook at all. Just plain Mom type letters. I JUST sent yesterday an article about his A-School that I found so I'm sure that will hit the trash pile too. On the website http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil we are supposed to refer to about bootcamp that came in the form letter it says this in the Family Guide:
Recruits can receive anything that can fit into a standard-sized envelope and news from home might help ease some of their homesickness as well. Resist the urge to send a care package or write on the outside of the envelope. We know you want to send your Recruit their favorite homemade chocolate chip cookies, but Recruits cannot receive these. Also, remember that the envelope will be seen by their RDC, so putting stickers or writing all over their envelopes might make your recruit uncomfortable.
So I'm confused as to why his articles about bootcamp, and local news, and facebook that I copy pasted have been thrown out. They were clean, upbeat, and MOSTLY from Navy sites.
Oh well, now I know not to send them.
CB- I would ask him in your next letter or call what the reason was. Each RDC is different and has different rules. Maybe just send regular letters for now and tell any sports scores or messages from friends on facebook in the body of you letter so it won't be crumpled up.
Believe me ALL my news is EXTREMELY POSITIVE and upbeat. I would never ever send anything that could even remotely add any stress. This is the most important time of his life right now, and I would not want him to have a worry in the world to cause any distraction or stress. Everything sent is Encouraging and Upbeat.
I sent him a copy/paste Article off the internet about the Broncos getting Manning, and at the bottom I put 2 pics of his dog. It was crumbled up according to his girlfriend.
I send him a pic of his facebook page so he could see all the comments and everyone wishing him well, and it was crumpled up per his girlfriend.
I sent him an article I copy pasted off Craigs site about bootcamp and it too was crumpled up per his girlfriend.
So that's what she's telling me.
???
CBlonde: Ok that is very odd about the crumpling up of the scanned piks and articles. Normally, SRs do not have to open mail in front of anyone unless it seems to be more than a letter (too big, too thick). We have not heard of this being a problem before. Now, we do ask that you keep all news passed forward "positive." They need nothing but encouragement while there. But normally they are allowed to get sports scores, etc.
I sent scanned piks to my son when he was there and there were no issues. We recommend not sending actual photos as they take up too much of their storage space. I always suggest that people scan the piks on the back of a letter, collage style, so you can get more on there. They do want to make sure that there are no "questionable" piks sent....heads up to the wives/gfs on here...but you are usually ok with pet piks, family photos, etc
Added a MARLINSPIKE Discussion up above. Your Recruits do this at the end of Training Week 3.
Crazy - That could've been it then...if it was on the same page. I am seeing that they don't want the internet stuff etc on there. No real pattern though...the RDC's are all different!
I sent cartoons and word searches with no problem...but your recruit might write home and say not too.
