A VERY special THANK YOU to Craig! I stumbled upon this!!!
http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433
It answered alot of questions!
Happy Birthday Betsy! I'm so glad it's not just me that's on an emotional roller coaster. I was beginning to think I was a basket case. I'm usually so unbelievably strong! I guess it's because this one is my youngest and him and I have been through so much together.
Quick story:
When he was 8, My other 2 kids all grown, we were alone (single mom) At 11:00 pm we heard a LOUD crashing of glass downstairs and LOTS of it! Then the sound of someone ransacking the house. I grabbed my gun and quietly opened my bedroom door, starting down the stairs, only to see him a step ahead of me in the darkness with his baseball bat. He reached backwards pushing me back and said get behind me mom, there's a robber, get back! Get back!
He was going to protect me! Bless his brave little heart!
Well it was terrifying and I had to struggle trying to get him behind me. He just would not be stopped. We wound up at the bottom of the stairs together. (Only 8 years old) When it was all over, it turned out that our horse had gotten into the back yard, busted out the big window, and had his head in the kitchen sink pushing around the dishes!!! OMG! LOL! He's a brave and strong young man, and I'm a proud mom, we've been through alot. I guess that's why it gets emotional.
Veteran moms - Have a question from a depper on my website. In the real Navy (non-boot camp), if a sailor meets the height/weight standard for the PFA then they pass that portion of the test. If they exceed the Height/Weight, then they do the BodyFat Mass Index (BMI) test.
What are they doing in boot camp? Height/Weight, BMI, or both?
Awww, Juliebelle, thank you. That's awesome!
I did get phone calls from 4 of the 5 of my children (3 of them are at least 2000 miles away from me) Unfortunately, I did not hear from my sailor, but I think he did say he was on duty today. He doesn't get a cell signal on the carrier. Who would have thought that? But, he did get me a laptop a few weeks ago, so I'm good with it.
FTLW, thank you, Snoopy always makes the day better.
Amanda, each milestone gets you one step closer.
Today marks three weeks that our SR has been gone. It seems like he has been gone forever, but also like time has flown by, all at once. Purchased airline tickets today. Another mile marker down!
Happy Birthday, Betsy!
I haven't been able to be with my son for his birthday now in 3 yrs....sigh....and he isn't even in the Navy anymore. But lives too far away. It's a different world now, with so many living away from family, whether in the service or not. I have a nephew in Seattle who only gets home here once a yr. We just have to get used to it!
It has been a very emotional day for me as well. Not sure why but reading all of your posts has really helped! It has driven me nuts not to be able to respond while I was at work. For some reason I can't get on here via my blackberry but at least I can see all your posts! So thanks so much for all of the sharing. Even though I couldn't participate until now, it really helped! Hugs to all.
Juliebelle I am so glad you finally got your box! Your post brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy for you. One more step crossed off the list!
Me too, you guys are a big help to me every time I need it. I think it is hard when they leave again. This time it was for me because she was only here for 3 days and only stayed with us one night and a couple afternoons. We have to share her with her husbands family but at least they live close enough that we can share and they don't have to choose which family they will go visit. So there is always an upside. And I always feel guilty for wanting her to stay longer when I know so many others have gone much longer without seeing their Sailors.
Happy Birthday Betsy and thanks so much for the hug. Our birthdays are very close, mine is a week from Sat on the 7th. I hope you got a rain-check on that movie date with your hubby and I also wish you lived closer we would share lots of hugs :-)
