juliebelle, thank you so much. I'm supposed to be on here helping you ladies, and you have helped me today.
Lala, I wish I lived closer as I would give you that hug in person. I don't think we ever "get over it". You just had your beautiful sailor home for awhile and I'm sure that's probably why it's hitting you harder this week. It's so hard to have to say goodbye all over again.
I've been having a very emotional week as well. Today is my birthday (and Friday is my oldest son's birthday) and I've never been away from the majority of my children on my birthday or their birthdays either, so I'm struggling through this day. Thank goodness, my husband has been very supportive today. He even asked me if I wanted to go to a movie (he never likes to go to the movies) tonight. I declined, but thanked him for the offer. I think we will just get some dinner and then have a really quiet night after that.
CB & Betsy both of those stories are so sweet and made my eyes tear up. I don't know what is wrong with me this week lol. I keep crying and tearing up. You would think I would be over it by now lol.
CrazyBlonde, awww how sweet of her.
I actually had a bit of a meltdown yesterday in front of the clerk at our post office. My son is very recently stationed on an aircraft carrier in Bremerton, WA and I had never had to mail a box to an FPO address before yesterday. I had to fill out the form for it and wasn't sure how, so the clerk helped me through it. He was so sweet and understanding. He asked all about my son, his ship, how long he has been in, how old he is, etc. and didn't even seem to care that there was a huge line of people waiting behind me. Gotta love those caring mail carriers and clerks.
Julie - I'm soooo happy for you! What a great day!! ((HUGS))
SOOOOOOOOOO Happy for you Juliebelle! I can just see the tears of joy! I got to the post office right after they had taken the mail out of the drop off box, I ran around to the back where the truck was loading mail and asked them to please take it on Saturday. I had tears and she noticed...said her son was also enlisted and said she thought I needed a hug. Of course I really cried then.
juliebelle, what a wonderful tribute to your family members.
To add to Dianne's suggestion, it would also be a good idea to laminate the phone number and address card. Your SR's may end up getting them wet, albeit by sweat or maybe even forgetting that it's in a pocket while going through the laundry.
juliebelle- so glad you finally got the box!!! Lucky you, that it did not smell! Even after washing my son's clothes, they still have a slight funky smell.
...for anyone who is concerned that your SRs may not remember cell numbers, please write them a letter today and put the numbers in there! :-)
juliebelle: My son's paperwork came back when he was there too. He had taken his contract, etc with him. They send that all back. They are allowed to keep their wallets and a small Bible (if they brought one). They also can ask for a Bible there. One suggestion that had been made before (maybe in the DEP groups) is for all to write down family/friend cell numbers on a small slip of paper and put in the wallet. When it is time to make a call, some don't know the cell numbers! They are also allowed to keep a small amount of cash. Debit/Credit cards too if they have those.
