Good morning everyone. I hope everyone has a wonderful days that is void of stress <3 You are getting close to the end of the boot camp journey and this can be a very stressful and exciting time for you and your soon to be Sailor. It won't be long now until your Sailor is in your arms and you are enjoying your time with him or her after PIR. So keep smiling, have a cup of coffee or hot cocoa on this chilly morning and relax a little :-)
You guys have to see this video. It brought tears to my eyes this morning when I was watching the news. Here is what his mom said. “When my husband left on his deployment, our 6-year-old son could not walk on his own. He has cerebral palsy. Doctors originally said that he would never walk or do much of anything. While daddy was away, he learned to walk. For his homecoming, we set it up for Michael to walk to his daddy for the first time ever! We kept the fact that he could walk a secret the whole time his dad was gone!”

Lady Hamilton: Since laurelbc has had a sailor for quite a while, this was obviously just a "slip" saying SR rather than sailor... right now in this group, they are still SRs. On PIR day, there is no mistaking that they are sailors!
laurelbc: Thanks so much for dropping in with your info! We other N4Moms veterans so appreciate it! Please feel free to drop into the other groups with any info you wish to share!
FTLW Still no parking on the station side. You still have to walk down the hill and up that never ending staircase...lol
Just and FYI:
The Weather Widget is interactive.
If you hold your cursor over the top bar:
To the far left is the LIVE tab. This shows the current weather. If you go to another day or time and want to return to the current weather just click LIVE.
The tab next to it is the time you are at.
Next to that is the date. Click the arrows to advance or retreat OR click on it and you will get a Calendar and can click on any date.
The rest of the top bar is the current day. The little green marker is what the current time is. Slide your cursor across to go to any time of the day
The weather will change in the Picture accordingly. The Big Square box on the right with the written details will change also.
Just under the top bar to the left are the next four days of the week...click on those to look at them...click on the arrow to extend...it will add two more days.
All the little balloons, birds, planes, falling stars etc. are added features I believe. But when it is windy or cloudy...those reflect the true weather conditions.
ellen0502 - QUESTION
Is there parking over on the Station side of the Metra...or do you still have to park in the lot on Ohio...walk back down the hill to Buckley and then up the stairs to the Station?
Well...Hello laurelbc 11/180! Long time no see! LOL
I was in your PIR group (laurel was our group creator) and also in your Division!
We had a Thursday PIR! Because of the Holiday some that were supposed to fly out also received extra days of Liberty (see the post After PIR up in the Discussion Forum for what happened to our Sailor)! I was so thankful for this site and the wonderful veteran moms that advised to stay until Sunday or I would have missed precious time with my son!
laurel...thank you for coming back to encourage the moms on here! Hope you will be able to post some more! I hope your Sailor is doing well!
Hello Moms and Wives of PIR5/25/12 group. My son PIR'd last May 26, 2011 and I will say it was one of the highlights of his life and of my own. Be prepared to feel some powerful emotions and pride. The Navy presents quite a ceremony so when your SR marches into the drill hall, get the handkerchief ready. I am thinking of all of you as you approach this great day. Last year was 40 degrees and blowing rain. Even in my bare legs and sandals, I did not care. Some practical advice, since it is again Memorial Day weekend, most of the SRs ship out to A school, but then are off duty til Tuesday. I really wish I could have spent that time with my son. If your SR stays in Great Lakes, you will probably get to see him or her all weekend. The next exciting thing is you can hand over your SR's cell phone at the airport. You will be back in touch, which is such a pleaure after the isolation of boot camp. Welcome to the Navy Navy Moms and Wives. Your SR is joining a Global Force For Good and you can be so proud. Congratulations all and Godspeed to Great Lakes.
It is getting so close...Thank you all for the information. It really means a lot..
If you are thinking about going to Chicago I recommend that you take the train from GL. It takes about an hour, but was so easy. It costs $3 per trip or you can buy a weekend pass (unlimited rides) for $7. We bought the pass for the weekend even though we thought we were going in just the one day (we ended up going Sat and Sun). The train station in GL is across the street from the base.
There are several trains both to and from Chicago during the day as it is a commuter train. Just look at the schedule and check to see what time you need to be back to the station. It was easy and a stress free way to go into the city, no worries about parking or driving in the city. There is also a bus that stops right outside the train station that goes to the Navy Pier.
Taxi drivers and bus drivers are helpful if you have a question as to how to get somewhere. We did find that every cab driver we had had been in Chicago ten years though...lol.
It was a little difficult finding a cab for five of us, but we managed. Our first ride was in a Scion XD and we wished we had a video of us peeling out of the car, we thought we probably looked like a clown car at the circus
Ok, ladies. I'm starting to collect BattleStations dates for this group. You will get these from your SRs. Please be asking and then friend request/private message them to me so I can keep a schedule, that I will send out to you. We cannot post dates anywhere on N4Moms so please keep this in mind. This was a request from RTC. They want you all to start practicing OPSEC and to consider BattleStations "ship movement" which cannot be publicly discussed.
