Good morning everyone and Happy Easter. We are having a wonderful weekend here in WNC. A bit chilly with frost yesterday and today but nice warm and sunny afternoons. Yesterday was my birthday and we had a great day with family :-) Wish my Sailor could have been here but I am leaving tomorrow morning to go see her in VA for a week so it is going to be an awesome week!!!

Re: Large 14 DIV PIR Group. I hate that some were not able to get in. I cannot stress to you enough that if you have a large PIR Group and have extra guests you are taking get in that line very early. The extras get in first come first serve. You never know how many extras will come for any PIR so better to play it safe and get there early :-)

Hi everyone, I am Lora, aka Lala the PIR Ribbons Queen from NC. I am one of the veteran moms who spends time on the PIR group pages helping answer any questions you have. I have a daughter, 22, who is Sailor in VA. She had PIR in July 2010 (left for bootcamp May 25th) so I have been on this site for almost 2 years. Her husband is also a Sailor in VA and his PIR was Oct 2010. We give him a really hard time because she outranks him lol. We have experienced lots of different things through this journey and I am here to help you. If you have any questions at all please ask them here on this page and one of us will do our best to answer it for you. My Sailor was in the performing division (900's) and was in the choir. For now the best advice is to start writing letters and write every day if you can. Even if your SR said not to, do it anyway. They quickly change their mind and love hearing their name called for mail call. It is like Christmas to them and they say the letters are what gets them through the next day. Try not to worry if the first couple of letters seem down or sad. this is normal and it does get better. You will be able to tell a difference in them with each letter you receive. I hope you all have a great weekend. I know you are looking forward to those first letters and calls :-)

Hi All...I just wanted you all to know about an Amazing thing. Calls for Recruits.org is giving away FREE Pre-paid Calling cards for Recruits in Boot camp.  Visit the site, and send an email requesting Phone Cards and send them off to your Recruits! Have a great day!!

I know...I was surprised that they were let in to stand...didn't know they would do that...yeah...1 1/2 hours. Don't lock your knees...no civilian "body snatchers".
Me too as far as bringing your guests...yes it is wonderful to be seated in Midway Hall...but in the end...so good to just be there for your loved one!

Thanks for that info, FTLW!  I hadn't heard that....makes sense.  14 is the largest PIR group yet that I have seen.  I still hope all take their extras to the ceremony, even if they don't get in and have to watch the tv screen ceremony, so they can spend time with the new sailors after PIR.  Well worth it!  And, I think unless another PIR group has 14 divisions, all in smaller groups should get in anyway.  I know that all in the Sept 2010 group of 13 divisions got in. Boy, sure would have hated to stand the whole time!  UGH!
