Welcome, rica! No, it is 8 weeks long....sometimes longer depending on holidays (my son's was over 9 weeks long because of Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years holidays when he was there. Holidays don't count as training days and move them back). 8 weeks from arrival for your SR will be July 11th.
There are sometimes divisions known as "push" divisions...they are the later arrivals for a PIR group who have to get all done in a few days less time, but they all do it. He should still be in processing days right now, but should start training weeks this week. There are 8 weeks of bootcamp, but only 6 weeks of training weeks. Processing days when they arrive can be a few days up to 10 days or more, depending on when the SR arrived. They become sailors after BattleStations (overnight drill), which they do on week/day 6-5. The lowest numbered divisions will become sailors first.
Anyway, if you want to read more about that, read the BattleStations discussion up above in the forum.
Blessings to your SR as he starts his journey!
Hi All! My husband left for BC May 16. Arrived Great Lakes night of May 16 and got my i'm here call. Received the box May 22 and got the form letter last Saturday, May 26. So surprised and happy to see that his PIR is July 13, one week earlier than we expected! :) Is BC now just 7 weeks long? Either way, it's just great that we'll be seeing him sooner :) Let's always pray for them that they'll have the strength, wisdom & courage to go through their Navy careers successfully. :)
Chris'Mom: This is the very hard time for you all...and for them too. That first letter/phone call helps alot. Many pass the time by writing daily letters to their SRs--even if you don't have an address to mail them yet (you number them, and then mail them all at once when that form letter arrives)...writing about what all are doing, giving other info that your SR may be interested in....all positive news. Number the letters, and once that form letter comes with the address, mail them all at once. Your recruiter may have an address too, but sometimes they are incorrect or a SR is moved. We suggest all wait for the form letter address.
The sailors "LIVE" for mail...so getting a ton of letters at once is great! Remember, they do not receive mail for the first 2 weeks they are there...until the Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained....
The "no contact" issue makes it hard for all. So just hang in there...like I said, as bootcamp goes along, you will have more contact (hopefully) from them...not alot, but some. Just know that A School is totally different...you are back in contact with them again! So hang in there! It does get better!
Good Morning everyone.. I hope yall have a great day. My son has been gone a week today and it feels like forever. I miss him so bad but I know this is what he truly wants to do. Was hoping to get his box and form letter Saturday but nothing so far, Maybe tomorrow. I found muself calling his cell phone I wanted to hear his voice so bad but I forget he had it suspened so no luck there. I am ready to hear from my boy. If anyone can give me tips on how to make time go faster would be great lol/ Hope everyone enjoys there day.
Hi everyone, I am Lora, aka Lala the PIR Ribbons Queen from NC. I am one of the veteran moms who spends time on the PIR group pages helping answer any questions you have. I have a daughter, 22, who is Sailor in VA. She had PIR in July, 23 2010 so I have been on this site for 2 years. Memorial day weekend was her first weekend at boot camp. After boot camp the time goes by so fast. She has been home 5 days now on leave for her brother and step-sisters graduation on Saturday and she goes back tomorrow. These days have really flown by. I can't believe it has been two years already. Her husband is also a Sailor in VA and his PIR was Oct 2010. We give him a really hard time because she outranks him lol. We have experienced lots of different things through this journey and I am here to help you. If you have any questions at all please ask them here on this page and one of us will do our best to answer it for you.Or you can send me a private message if you like. My Sailor was in the performing division (900's) and was in the choir. For now the best advice is to write letters every day if you can. Even if your SR said not to, do it anyway. They quickly change their mind and love hearing their name called for mail call. It is like Christmas to them and they say the letters are what gets them through the next day. Try not to worry if the first couple of letters seem down or sad. This is normal and it does get better. You will be able to tell a difference in them with each letter you receive. I hope you all have a had a wonderful weekend and Memorial Day. I know this is hard but be strong, you can do this. And on the days when you feel like you can't come to this page and we will help you through it :-) I know you are looking forward to those first letters and calls :-) And I look forward to getting to know all of you and hearing more about your soon to be Sailors :-)
Good Morning all! Happy Memorial Day and thanks to those who have served...2 weeks down for my SR and 6 weeks to go! Hotel reservations are made...Trip is planned...I am really OK with no communication because they say.."NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!"...In the Air Force, Memorial Day was always a day to celebrate those who have served at the bases we were stationed at! I wonder what is going on today at RTC? Are there ceremonies? I hope my SR thinks and reflects today about those who paved the way for her with their time as well as lives. Shout out to my Cousin Micheal, who served and died in Vietnam (Marine) as well as my Dad, Uncle, Grandpa and all the others who served our country...It is an Honor to be a member of the Military Family!
Good Morning all...and Happy Memorial Day! We are so thankful for all who have served and are serving in our military. May God Bless each of them!
There is a Discussion about the BC jobs...I answered there and will post it here too.
Here is a chart of the COC at RTC (Chain of Command):
Click to open in another page and zoom.
Here is the link to RTC website that explains all the RPO positions (Recruit Petty Officers):
http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/recruit_petty_officer.asp
Here is a pic of a Collar Device(I belive there are a different number of Chevrons depending on their postition) that the RPO's wear:
On the Chart RCPO(Recruit Chief Petty Officer) = ARPOC, RLPO(Recruit Lead Petty Officer = AROC
But it is too hard to yell... "RRRRCPO or RRRRLPO get your ________ in here"...So ARRRRRRPOOOC and ARRRRROC it is.
These positions are just for the duration of Boot Camp
diannep, I wouldn't last a minute! But this is a system that works so bless 'em all!
