Well, NancyS: I think YOU need to attend bootcamp so you can learn how to write Navy-style! :-) How long do you think we would LAST? I would probably break into tears the first time I was yelled out...such a wus....
Yep, molding and scolding is pretty much what they are going through!
Lisaloo thanks for the lyrics. I did what I've heard everyone does and searched every scrap of paper. The writing is all caps with a diagonal line through the zero. diannep - I did try to write in Navy Print, but geez it was hard -- but did by neatest printing. (PS love the expression "molded and scolded")
channa1 - I agree with Lisaloo -- I'm sure your SR will finish -- she may even have opportunities while she is enlisted.
Hope everyone is having a great day -- I'm gonna go finish watching the Indy 500 with hubby....
Lisaloo: YEP! Navy print is ALL CAPS.
channa: I bet she will finish school, and on the "Navy's dime" this time. My son starts back this week using his GI Bill...working on his Bachelor's now....has his A.S. already. She will be learning so much in the Navy, growing up so much more. Don't be too hard on yourself for the "emotional rollercoaster" right now. It is very common on the PIR sites! The lack of communication and knowing that they are being "molded and scolded" :-) is hard for us. But on PIR Day? Wow...all that you went through will be in the past and you will have a smile on your face that can't be removed! Just you wait! It is an "awesome" experience of a lifetime!
And, forget it. I just don't think the "men" at home understand what we ladies go through at times like this! Our hormones don't help the situation!
I have been enjoying the connection I feel to my SR's by listening to his Ipod which came home in his box, and was I inspired by some SR bootcamp letters I read on a blog to write out the lyrics of some of his favorite songs.
A poignant verse I came across in Little Talks~Of Monsters and Men:
You're gone, gone, gone away,
I watched you disapperar.
All that's left is a ghost of you.
We're torn, torn torn, apart,
there's nothing we can do,
Just let me go, we'll meet again soon
I have read the post and really appreciate the fact that I am not the only one having those days! I was not real happy at first, not because she joined the Navy, it was because we spent so much on tuition and the last check had just cleared when she told us she quit school and joined the Navy. Now I could not be more proud of her. Emotions are all over the place. My poor husband does not know what to say anymore. One minute I am smiling the next I hear a song or see that Box with her writing on it and break into tears!...The thing that gets me through is reading these post and knowing she is with some fine young people who have GREAT Parents who care!. I am told she will be a different person when she gets out...I am with the Mom who says, if the Navy can do in 8 weeks what I have tried to do in 20 years!...I will be very thrilled. Well enough said...Thanks for the post...Have a great day!
Hi My SR is Ship 011 DIV 214. SR Hanna...
Is "Navy Print" print in all caps?
Wow, thanks for the insight, Ellen! It sure was easier for me to read with my son's not-so-great handwriting!
NancyS: Keep printing your envelopes "Navy style" to your SR! You may impress the RDCs and who knows...maybe they will get an extra phone call home?? :-)
Good morning, everyone!
I had always wondered why my dad always wrote things the way he did, I found out after my son sent his first letter. My dad wrote in Navy print for the rest of his life. :).
Hey gamom -- another div 215 mom! Me too! Whatever they are doing -- they are doing it together!
tam1960 what div is your SR?
