N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

This was on my Navy veterans website. This, by far, is the most bad-ass Popeye I've ever seen....

Per Sarge, he's a retired Army guy that does one of the Meet and Greet in Great Lake.  His, by far, is the best.  You won't find any better  He has a lot of great info. He runs the taxi service up in Great Lakes.  He's a great guy.  You will learn a lot from him...

Samis - Some people love the Ramada, some people hate the Ramada. The best place to find really good advise is TripAdvisor.com.

I am one of those that can't stand the Ramada. It really was bad. The room stunk. We called the front desk and all they did is send someone up and poured perfume into the AC. We went out and bought candles to masked the smell and it still stunk. We moved out the next day.... However, remember, that was three years ago.
A couple other things about it is it not in a real good part of town. Lots of news all the time about that hotel...

The Navy Lodge is military and is located in the family housing part of the base so it is not gated. Wherever you make a reservation be sure to call them directly and tell them you are coming for the Navy graduation that weekend.

The Navy Lodge will give you a discount and put your reservation in your SRs name, and they will ask you for his rate (SR). Not a problem in giving that to them.

The Navy Lodge is approx a mile from the gate to PIR and about 2 miles from the TSC main gate, although you cannot walk to PIR from there.

(a note here - I just looked at the Ramada rates again and they were only about $5.00 more a night - or about $50 more - not much different but I guess it really depends on what's offered at both and how close to the base they are)

Hi ladies, regarding questions about Sarge's Meet and Greet, see the list of events on the right side of this page...go to a Sarge's Meet and Greet, click on it.  It has good info and details.

Is the Navy Lodge ONLYfor military people?  I just booked a room for 3 nights for my daughter's PIR but I'm feeling like I got a steal of a deal!  How close is it to the base to PIR?  Is there a shuttle?  Do I have to pay for shuttle? Heck, will they even let me stay there because I am only a civilian????

I was wondering the sme thing - who is Sarge??? I feel foolish not knowing this...
Comment by SamisMom on June 1, 2013 at 10:03pm

Where are you all finding information about the Meet & Greets?  Why Sarge? Who is Sarge?

Thanks!

Comment by SamisMom on June 1, 2013 at 10:01pm

So exciting - thank you for all the great information!  I was thinking of flying out Thursday but want to be sure to get in a Meet & Greet or 2 so should probably take both Thursday and Friday off from work (hopefully that won't be a problem!).  My SR is attending A school there in GL so I'm really excited to hear that she will be able to spend time with us!!! Thank you so much diannep for that great post!  :o)

I was looking at Navy Lodge then looked at the Ramada - the Ramada offered a packaged deal for PIR Graduations....but it didn't look any better really than a regular deal. BUT they offer a continental breakfast which is good.  BUT it was much more than the Navy Lodge.  Any suggestions about where to eat if we stay at the Navy Lodge?  Maybe they have a restaurant, I don't know as I was looking at it via my iPhone - I'll check now on the computer.

Thanks again everyone!!

PS Saratoga - I was born and raised on the Central Coast of California, in Carmel Valley - the Monterey Peninsula. Moved up here to the foothills 10 years ago. It's absolutely gorgeous up here with all the fresh rivers and forests.  I like your plan to fly in on one end of our beautiful state and drive to the other end. :o)
