For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Yes, MomLovesRyan....One MeetandGreet is from 6-8, one from 5:30 - 8:30, and one is 5 - 9. Some manage to get to a couple of them. They are all pretty close together.

pjs: Hotels that have had good reviews on this site have been:
Navy Lodge
Springhill Suites Waukegan
Courtyard Inn Waukegan
Residence Inn Waukegan
Holiday Inn Express
There are many more...but these seem to be pretty popular. We loved Residence...it is great for larger groups.
Darleen: Try to book through the weekend if possible. Is your SR staying in GL for A School or flying out? If staying, you will get daytime Liberty throughout the weekend. If flying out, they probably will leave on Saturday (you can visit them at the airport until departure) but sometimes they leave on Sunday. So try and stay until Sunday if possible. You will need to arrive up there on Thurs, hopefully in time for the MeetandGreets that night!

CatMom509, so, I just saw what posted earlier...So, I will start at the northern part of California and travel south along the coast for a while and meander through the mid and southern sections ha...California is a long state, and so much to see.

diannep, right, and thanks! I think we are going to plan on Sarges Meet and Greet. I clicked on one he and his wife are having that is already listed. It sounds very nicely done, and he sounds like a great source for information.

If your SR will be staying in GL for school they will have most of Friday and all of Sat and Sunday ( approx 6am-10pm) for liberty (duty may interfere a little bit). So, if you can plan on arriving Thursday early enough to attend one of the meet and greets, and leaving either very late Sunday night or if at all possible Monday.
If your SR is flying out for A School they will probably fly out sometime on Sat. Again, get there on Thursday early enough to attend one of the meet and greets, and plan on staying through Sunday if possible. You do get to meet your sailor at the airport and wait with them at the gate until their flight leaves.

So glad everyone received phone calls, either in person or a message on the machine. Just hearing their voice is music to the ears and heart. A question for "those in the know" regarding graduation 19Jul2013 ... How many days should we plan on being there for graduation, etc. Want to make sure we have time off work and travel time. Thanks for all your help!

So glad everyone that got to speak to their babies. (face it they will always be our babies). So sad I didn't get to speak with mine. It will come thought. May everyone who spoke to their child tonight sleep a little easier and remember those of who was still waiting in your prays.
