N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Ajsmom (Ship 13 div 269)

Thank you for that information. I hope your son is doing well. I have heard so many things about their division. Also diannep, they can get on their facebook? That is so neat. Wow. Also same to you thank you for the information. I do have one other thing. I have 8 more cards to send to my fiance. When should I stop sending cards and letters???

Krose - my son is in 269 as well. They will be going to battle stations just a few days before PIR. After they pass that, then we will get our calls. Div 268/270 will be the last to go to BS.

OOOPS....sorry, looked at the wrong division number, Krose.  I see you are 269/270, so most likely your call will come during PIR week.

Comment by diannep on July 2, 2013 at 11:03am

Krose:  After BattleStations (see discussion above in the forum), your sailor should be able to call you to say he is a sailor.  Some of them get on their Facebooks first before they get to the phones---so be checking that.  If they have "watch", they may not be able to call with the rest of the division.  But they should call later that day or the next day.

Your SR is in the first two divisions of the PIR group so your call most likely will come late next week.

PIR Dress:  You will see all types there, but we suggest dressy casual since your sailors will be in their "Best!"  Nice jeans/slacks, casual top, a dress if someone wants, but remember that you will be climbing up into bleachers.  Like I said, you will see some that may be a little too casually dressed there and others who are a bit too fancy dressed!  None of it matters because all are there to see their new sailors!  HOOYAH!

After they become sailors, they can be any of the following:

If a sailor graduates as an E-1, he/she stays an SR until in A School.

If a sailor graduates as an E-2, he/she is an SA (Sailor Apprentice) until in A School

If a sailor graduates as an E-3, he/she is an SN (Seaman), AN (Airman), or FN (Fireman) at A School.  That will be how you address letters to them while in A School.  Just confirmed this with my former sailor...picking his brain since he was at bootcamp back in 2009, but that is what he remembers.  When your sailor arrives at A School, he/she will give you the new address with the proper title for them.

MomLovesRyan Ship 09 Div 266:

It is alright. No problem at all. I am was just wondering about it. It for a few reasons one being I just want to hear his voice. The last call I missed was on the 13th. I miss him so much. I cannot wait to see him. Thank you so much for the information I really appreciate it. I will be just as happy to read it in a letter. I feel so bad that so many people in his division are not able to do to well. I hope things work out for them all. Thank you again!

Krose018 - Sorry to have been confusing. Since from what you're saying your husband isn't going to fall behind on anything, his call should come in between Thursday of next week July 11th and the following Monday July 15th. (They don't do Battlestations on the weekend). BUT - I have heard that sometimes, they don't get to make the call....rare, but possible.

MomLovesRyan Ship 09 Div 266:

My fiance is on ship 13 so divisions 269 and 270. I believe he is 269. He is not having to take any test over that I know of. Every letter or call I have gotten he has told me he has passed everything. He is very psychically fit and trained/worked out for about 9 months before he went in. So he has had no problems with physical demands being put on him. He also studied very hard and is doing just fine as far as I know. What I am wondering is will he call me or will I get a letter with him telling me he is a sailor? I know there are a lot of people in his division not doing so well. I hope they are able to pass the tests and don't have to be moved to another division/ship. Do they sometimes not call at all? I will be notified right?

Have you noticed, we have one of the smaller TGs? We have only 7 Divisions. Some have up to 13 Divisions - almost twice as many!

I feel so stupid asking this question - but, I want to start making up nametags for PIR. I want to include my son's name, my name and my n4m name. My question is - now our SRs have SR in front of their last names. Once they become a Sailor, what goes in front of their last name? Since I wouldn't imagine that it's SR anymore. Sorry....I know I'm so naive about all this. It's all very new to me.
