dmcNavy:  Yes, you can send them for her to wear at PIR.  Yes, a small box with a very small amount of solution is allowed.  Label the outside of the box as to what is inside.  She will have to open in front of RDCs and will be told to put away until PIR, but that is not a problem.

Glad it worked out for him, NavyGirlzMom!  Yes, your niece would need a photo ID also  (those over 12 are asked to bring them).  ....or the birth certificate/social security card may suffice.  You may want to doublecheck that with Public Affairs since her paperwork is a bit different from your son's.  Some have gone to their local DMV office to get a "state photo ID" since they are too young for/ don't have licenses.

Comment by Jill (ATO Mom) on August 2, 2012 at 12:25pm

NavyGirlzMom:  The honor recruits are chosen by the recruits in each division, so yes, there would be one per division graduating.  It is not determined by any scores, etc... just by who the division decides to vote for.  This is done about 3 weeks before graduation.  The other awards are nominated by the RDC's, then the nominees go before a board of RDC's that ask them questions then decide on the final recipients of each award.  This is also done a few weeks before graduation.  Again, on this one, test scores are considered, but not as the final criteria.  It's more about finding the recruit that best embodies the criteria for the particular award.

Great info, ellen.  Such a hard time for them and the ladies here...but they can do this!

Good morning all!

Comment by ellen0502 on August 2, 2012 at 2:10am

Pep talk coming (sorry it is a "my son" story). Rainbow

My son failed his run first PFA (ended up he had pneumonia), and also failed his floating on the swim test (no fat to float, so wasted too much energy trying to breath). He did pass all a couple of weeks before PIR.

They will be told a lot of things at this point in an effort to get them to "try harder" etc.Your SR may think, and be told they are not going to make PIR, but the truth is, they will be given every opportunity available to succeed. They may also think that the RDC want them to fail...NOT TRUE, the RDCs want them to succeed at this point, and will do what is needed.

The week before PIR on Wednesday, a total of six (if I remember the count right) SRs either in his div or brother division, were removed for failed PFA and Swim tests and put in a different div/ship (not sure if FIT div). It was hard on all of them, not only the ones leaving, but the ones that were watching them leave.

The Monday before PIR, BS was scheduled, late that afternoon the RDC came in saying hustle and get your stuff stowed you have two hours, it at first confused my son and those in the ship, but around the corner came all six of them, ditty bags in hand, returning to the ship, and to participate in BS that night and . One of them returning had passed his swim test just that morning. My son said it was very emotional for everyone to see them all walk back in.

Now, there may be some that don't make it, and I certainly don't know the percentage, but at this point the RDCs want everyone to make it. So chin up ladies, I can't tell you not to worry, I know I did, but they will be given everything they need and every available opportunity.

Prayers that all do well and pass
