...should clarify that with a group this large, more than 2 divisions will probably go a night, but no more than 4 can go a night.  So there could be 4 divisions with the same date.

gingermom:  Each division/brother division will have its own date.  This group will be starting them later next week and continuing during PIR week.  Your SRs are the ones who can tell you when they go through.  If you friend request/private message me, I keep schedules of the dates so those who don't hear from their SRs can message me.  But don't have many dates yet.  Hoping to hear from you all soon with more dates!  :-)

Hi all, When is this happening? How do we find out?

Comment by diannep on July 31, 2012 at 9:25am

Did you all know that this site was created for you by the NAVY back in March 2008?  Yep.  There is even a commercial for it on youtube.  This was what the Navy did for the families/friends of the sailors.  Aren't you glad that they did????

But, remember.  This site is monitored, as are the FB groups.  There have been FB groups shut down by the Navy because of "loose lips."  So we all have to be every mindful that these are social sites that are public (even if you think they are private!  Just "google" some info about the Navy, and see how many options from NavyforMoms come up!).  Private messaging info that is personal and security-specific is safe.

seamonkey:  Don't have an actual date for them yet, but have a good idea.  Message me.

Jill is correct.  Most all pass, but falling asleep is an automatic fail (the shipmates try to keep each other awake).  For those few who do fail, they will go again with the next group and pass.  I have been on these PIR groups and monitoring Battlestations since early in 2010 and have never heard of a SR failing BattleStations twice....so no worries.

Your sailors will not be able to discuss specifics of BattleStations with you (confidential) but most will tell you it was challenging, but exciting.  Usually when they finally call you, they are exhausted (having been up for over 30 hours by the time they call and by the time they hit their racks that night--2 hours earlier than usual-- they are more than ready!  They most likely will be drinking energy drinks and eating candy bars when they call...something they have not been allowed to have before this...but desperately need now!

It is a wonderful call!  So get ready!

Comment by diannep on July 31, 2012 at 9:14am

NatesWife:  RTC decided a year or so ago that they wanted you all to pretend that BattleStations is "ship movement."  That is because:  Your SRs-almost-sailors will be participating in drills that recreate all that they could face at sea...all emergency situations....they want you to start practicing OPSEC (security) now...because once they are stationed on their ships, it is a matter of national security and safety for our Navy members that these social sites don't expose future dates/locations of the ships.  I use to be able to post schedules right here on the site but had to stop a year ago.

But no problem...we can private message the dates!  That is allowed.  So please friend request/message them to me if you hear from your SR.  I have received some, but not all.  Give me a couple of days and hopefully I will have more dates from you all.  You can then message me for them if you need them. The schedule is starting to come together, but I need everyone's help!  So send me the date if you have received one from your SR!  Thanks!

p.s.  If your SR says "I will call you on (date)", that will be the date that they finish BattleStations (overnight drill).  They start the night before.  So be sure if you send me a date to specify if that is the call date or start date.  Thanks!

I agree Jill, this is what they have been training for over the last 7 or 8 weeks. They can do this. I see some people stay up all night as a vigil and that is great and I know they are just probably too anxious to sleep anyway. But for me I went to bed early. I wanted to make sure I was well rested and ready for that (hopefully) hour long phone call :-) Sadly I had to share that time with the boyfriend lol. But she called me first, talked 30 min, then called him & talked 15 and her calling card ran out. So she called me back COLLECT lol. The Sprint operator came on the line and said collect call from.......... The charge will be $10 for 10 min will you accept? HECK YES lol, I think I would have paid $100 for a ten min call at any point during bootcamp lol.

Seamonkey, send a message to Diannep, if she knows it yet she will send it to you.

Ugh..thanks Jill. That was very helpful. Its just really hard to deal with when you hear about SR's coming home. My heart is aching for them, plus the ones still there and especially my own. I pray and hope they all do great. If anyone knows the date for 257, please PM me. Thanks.

Nate's wife... in order to start practicing OPSEC, they ask that we learn to keep our mouths shut and not put specifics on public websites.  I don't know when 257 will be going through yet, but I'm sure somebody on here will let someone know and then they can private message you.

Seamonkey... they go through in teams, but the do pass or fail individually.  Honestly, I don't think it's worth as much stress as people give it... I would say the biggest majority of the time I read that the whole division has passed... very occasionally I see that one or two people did not.  The good news is, they really do want them to succeed :-)  If they fail, they will let them go through again the next night in order to get them through before PIR.  Remember, it is a test of everything they have learned during their entire time there... they should be prepared... they just need to prove it during this night.  Just pray for your SR and relax your mind... it will be ok :-)
