Just letting everyone know I made it home safely from vacation. It is always so welcoming to cross over into the mountains of NC and see everything look so green and alive. Glad to be home, excited to sleep in my own bed and happy to get back to more time on this site :-) I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. If anyone likes facebook and hasn't joined this group yet please check it out. there are a lot of members from several different PIR groups looking for others with recruits in their division. https://www.facebook.com/groups/327167160695549/

I am thinking this week will be a great week for letters and my fingers are crossed for you all :-)

OOops!  Didn't see where sastemy received her letter--thanks for catching that, FTLW!....so maybe some were allowed to write earlier last week?  Different divisions may be able to write earlier than others (if training of Mail Petty Officers is complete).  So...hoping that all of those letters are coming next week!

Comment by vicsmom72 (SHIP 07 DIV 257) on July 7, 2012 at 7:36pm

Nates Wife, seems to be the same for all in that ship/div.......yeah so our turn has to be coming : )

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on July 7, 2012 at 7:17pm

sastemy has received her first letter (YAY) from her SR so they should start coming in soon!

I agree with diannep though that tomorrow may be their first real day for all to write.

@dukelvr my son got to great lakes on 6/20, I have not received a phone call or letter.  I did get the im here call, the form letter and the box with his items though

Comment by ibmom on July 7, 2012 at 2:31pm

dukelvr nothing but the "i'm here" call, box and form letter.  We were hoping for something this week so I'm glad to see diannep's info.  Thanks for that diannep, that makes me feel better.  I know no news is good news but it's still hard.

Comment by diannep on July 7, 2012 at 1:34pm

dukelvr:  I have a feeling that tomorrow will be the first day that they get to write.  They usually can't write until they have been there about 2 weeks.  They have to train the Recruit Mail Petty Officers, who handle the mail.  So look for a letter next week sometime!

Calls are more random.  My son happened to be in two different divisions when he was there...he was asmoed (setback) for a week during his 3rd week of training.  His first division allowed a good number of calls....even on Thanksgiving Day--he had just arrived 3 days earlier.  He entered his next division during training week 3 (about 4 more weeks of bootcamp) and they hardly got to call at all.  It is up to the RDCs but it is early for you all to get calls yet.  But hopefully in the next week or two!

Comment by dukelvr on July 7, 2012 at 12:30pm

Hey all! Just curious, when did your SR arrive to Great Lakes? And has anybody received their first real letter or phone call yet? All I have received is the "I'm here" call. Just wondering where I stand! Getting pretty antsy.

Good morning all.

Congrats, sastamey!  Sounds like she is doing great!  The homesickness gets a little easier as they go along, although "home" is never far from their thoughts!

Comment by sastamey (Ship 11 Div 250) on July 6, 2012 at 9:59pm

I am a happy Mama, got a letter from my daughter yesterday!  She is very homesick and said she misses us like crazy!  She said it is very tough but it's not the workouts and being yelled at all the time that makes it tough, it's being disconnected from loved ones.  But even though she is homesick I got the feeling she is otherwise doing okay. She also said she enjoys going to church, it has been a big comfort for her.  Can't wait to see her....counting down the days.
