Yep, some get nicknames in BC and they are great. My son had several, Wookie, Teen Wolf and sasquatch, bet you can guess why.

Jill the form letter can take up to 3 weeks to receive. If she was in one of the last divisions to be formed for the TG it can take a little more time. If you don't have the letter in another week or so call her recruiter.

You do not need to have the physical letter for PIR, but you will need the password that is in it for the parking pass. Don't worry about that though right now, you can ask her directly when she calls (she will call you at least once) if you don't receive it.

Love the ribbons! I plan on placing an order. My only concern is what happens if my SR moves to a different div? That can happen right? Is it best to order towards the end of BC?

I love the nick names they give them. My Sailor's nick name was Skipper like Barbies little sister :-)

Jill, I agree with MySailorsAnchor.  Give it a bit more time.  Your daughter can tell you the password in a letter or in a phone call.  But hoping you get the letter soon.  Maybe it was forwarded and is taking longer then.

All - I have a point of contact at ONR that maybe able to help anyone that cannot find an answer to a question (his wife is an ombudsman). Also, I have a ton of other resources since I work for a government contract in the DC metro area. All you have to do is just ask and I will see if someone outside of this website can help. Thanks :)

Jill - I wouldn't worry just yet, they said it can take up to 3 weeks in some cases. The letter tells you their address and provides you with information for graduation. In addition it encourages you to visit www.bootcamp.navy.mil. Information is also posted on Facebook at www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand.
I personally believe you will find more information on the RTC website and on these types of forms than you will in the letter.

Also, I didn't say this last week but my husband had to call his mom last Friday. He called to obtain her divorce information for his security clearance lol. He said basic sucks so far but all the recruits that have been there a while say it gets better. He told her I should expect some letters this week. With that said, I would assume some recruits mail letters on Friday, or Saturday :).

Comment by Jill (ATO Mom) on July 5, 2012 at 5:09pm

I still have not received the form letter yet, and it has been over 2 weeks since she left.  I'm wondering if she did not have her address book with her when they mailed them out.  We just moved to Idaho a month before she shipped out, she didn't move with us, so she probably didn't have that address memorized.  If she thought to mail it to our old address we have a forward set up with the post office, so it will just take longer to get here.  Does anyone know what would happen if it got returned to RTC?  Would she end up with it again and be able to readdress it?  Also, what other information is on the form besides the 4 guests she put down to go to PIR?  I know there is a password to use to get a parking pass for PIR, but other than that do I actually need the physical letter in hand when going on base for the PIR?  I'm not worried about her, I know she's doing great, and her recruiter finally told me what division she is in.  I just don't want PIR to come and I forgot something because I didn't get the letter.  Maybe it will come soon :-)

I got my letter today! His nickname there is Bruce Lee! I love it. He says it's super easy for him, he's always been cut out for military life. I'm so proud of him.

Yes I agree with you Lala! This group has been here for me since day 1. Very thankful for this site and all you wonderful veterans.

Everyone please keep coming to this page. There are moms and other members who don't "do" facebook and they will be looking for support here. Some of them are here just reading posts who are too shy to post anything their selves so they rely on what they read here to get them through this experience. If you want some great facebook groups here are the ones I have seen the most activity on. Also remember some group are closed and some are not. You should never post any private info or ship movement, Sailor travel details on any page or group no matter if it is private, closed or open. Always be safe and keep your Sailor safe.
