fishey: Yep! The theme in the Navy is NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS. Go on that theory and it will save you alot of nervous moments! :-)
Neecie: Assume that for now...it is probably correct. But once you get the form letter, that is the "official" info. So whatever info you all have received from the recruiter, check it with the form letter. Sometimes the addresses are a bit different. No worries...your letters will get there...just may take a bit longer to get to your SR if the address was wrong. The recruiters get the addresses off the computer and sometimes changes are made after that.
Here is the link to doublecheck the address of your SR's ship #:
Neecie5 -I called my son's recruiter and he gave me his ship and div. I went with it. Sending those letters and knowing that at least in my mind I was getting them there helped my mental state! :-)
fishey - I haven't received anything either. My son's recruiter gave me the info and took time to verify the address as well. I promised them I wouldn't call EVERY day with questions. LOL No news is good news!!
Hey Everybody! I'm so happy we are all together in this! Thanks to the veterans for helping us out. This site has been so awesome! Looking forward to 8/17/12!! XO Lea Anne
Welcome, ProudldahoNavyMom: We N4Moms veterans will be here often to help you all through this! It is an amazing time, concluding with a wonderful phenomenal ceremony!
Proudmama: RE: his nice handwriting. We all went through that when we received our SR's letters! They have a "Navy style" that the SRs have to write in. I would imagine that they are told what will happen to those letters if they don't write correctly! Like....they won't get mailed! But we all loved seeing that nice neat handwriting!
Totally get the "grocery store" experience. My son left for bootcamp in 2009, 2 weeks after my only other child moved out. No hubby here, so now just "me and the dogs' to buy for. I cried my way all the way through the grocery...just didn't seem right to buy just for myself! :-(
I am so thankful that I found this site, just knowing others that understand exactly what you are going through is such a comfort. My son left for BC June 19, 2012 and my husband and I thought we were completely prepared because my son Bryce has known that he wanted to go into the Navy since he was in the 4th grade but boy were we unaware of the feelings that were about to unload on us. We are so unbelievably proud of him and can't wait to see the adventures and opportunities that will come his way but oh how I wish I could have a "do over" and just have him at 5 sitting on my lap and just needing me again. It is amazing to me the roller coaster of emotions that we have experienced these past few days, smiling and proud then walking past the creamer at the grocery store and sobbing (talk about embarrassing!)
Now we just wait to run to the mail to see each day if the official letter and his will arrive...nothing yet but thankfully his recruiter called us 2 days after he left and gave us his Ship 3 Div 253 and the address so that we could get our letters in the mail so hopefully that is the correct info and that this will be the correct PIR...although I have heard that it can change if circumstances would warrant it. I am looking forward to getting to know you all and appreciate in advance the advice from those who have "been there, done that" :)
Kellie
Hi ladies my son left from Minneapolis on 6/19. I just received his from letter PIR is 8/17, he's ship 11 div 251. His hand writting is so nice, I always told him to write better on important forms, I guess this is the first sign of my baby becoming a responsible man, so many tears. I look forward to taking this journey with you ladies. It really does help to read these posts.
However here is "how" BC works:
It is anywhere from 7.5 to 9 weeks for the total time there. (During Christmas time it can be up to 10 weeks total)
The first "week" is "P" days or Processing Days. There are usually about five of those and would be called P-1, P-2 etc. If they go past that (more are needed or they are waiting for more recruits to fill a Division) then they are on P-hold until that happens. One the Divison is formed they will move from Temp Housing into their Compartment on their Ship...together.
Then you have 6 Training Weeks. M-F are Training Days...Sat and Sun do not count in the counting of days. They are busy on Saturdays... there are usually no classes though. Sunday they have "Holiday" time from 7AM to 1PM...(with the exception of the first Sunday together as a Division...no Holiday time...to busy)... Again they do not spend the rest of the day idle.
The last "week" they are there is for getting ready for PIR, getting ready for Departure of RTC etc.
"8" weeks.
Now, Lets say you arrive on a Tuesday. That's P-1. W/P-2. TH/P-3. F/P-4...Sat-Sun...M/P-5.
If your Division is all ready to go by P-5... then Tuesday would be Week1 Day1, W/Week1 Day2, etc. Then the next Tuesday would be Week2 Day1 etc up to Week6 Day5 which would be on a Monday.
Then the last week of BC.
My son arrived on a Tuesday and had PIR on a Thursday (it was Memorial day weekend so it was moved up a day)...so he was at BC for 8 weeks and two days total.
