Blue Eyes: If you want to lean on the wall, you have to be at RTC by 6:30 so you can get into the hall early, and even then, sometimes that top row is taken in your division section. But that is the only one where you can lean against the wall. It is highly desirable!
There is balcony seating also. If you get there early enough, you can "test out" different places to sit. We were in the middle of the bleachers downstairs and had good visibility from there. Some like the But others love the balcony. So just check it out!
BUY, not GUY! Sorry!
They have some pre-ceremony activity going on...plus big video screens with different things. The honor guards are in front of each division--interesting to watch them being so professional as people ask them for info.
Our most fun thing before PIR was watching the little children in their Navy outfits dance/run around in there. So cute!
The ceremony starts at 9 a.m. They have some tables set up there with some snacks, etc.you can guy also, but you can also bring in your own snacks.
Blue Eyes: We took the shuttle. It was so easy...we were on the 6:30 shuttle from Residence Inn (selected that time when we checked in). Arrived at the gate by 6:40. Through security in just a few minutes...and in PIR Hall by a little after 7. Picked the shuttle back up after PIR at the gate with no problem. Sailor travels back with you for free usually...others pay $3/pp each way.
Others have driven with no issues either (but you will need to be in car lines much earlier...shuttles bypass the car lines). The walking distance is probably about the same...maybe 1/4 of a mile from gate to hall.
When you think about it you realize how easy it is to create a facebook profile with a fake name add a couple pics from the web of some Navy "stuff" and then make your page private how would anyone know that you were not a Navy Mom. All you need is an email account and we all know how easy those are to get. Anyone could be reading your posts or comments on any social media site you are on. The RDC's are the least of your worries because there are only a few of them who ever come to N4M or facebook. We want you to stay on this site and if you like facebook stay on there too. Just always be careful what you post. Come here for the support you need. We understand and are here to help. If you need someone to talk to privately we can do that too. You can send me an email anytime you like and I will private message my cell number to you if you want to actually talk. I have talked to lots of moms on this site and I have made some really good friends by doing so. Just remember when posting comments on here or on facebook you don't know who is watching. so be careful. Don't give out detailed information about letters or problems or RDC's while they are in bootcamp. After they leave bootcamp don't post any detailed info about Sailor or Ship movement. Don't say my Sailor is flying out today from O'hare at 10:20 on Delta, or my Sailor's ship is being deployed Tuesday from Norfolk. Those types of details can bring harm to your Sailor and 100's or 1000's of others. You can say, my recruit says bootcamp is getting a little easier, the food is great or not too bad, I am happy with my decision, our DIV is coming together and working as a team. Once in the fleet you can say my sailor will be deployed sometime soon. or My Sailor was deployed a few days ago. We all have to look out for and protect each other and our military service members but as long as you are careful you should be fine. If you want to talk or email any concerns to me in private I am happy to help. My email is uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com
Please don't be scared to post on this wall :-)
Thanks so much for all the prayers for my Sailor. Her CAT scan came back normal and she was starting to feel a little better last night. I think she may go from SIQ to LLD in a day or so. Prayer does work and we are grateful for your prayers and concern. Thanks so much.
To add to what diannep has said, one other thing you may consider doing, is if you have a picture of your SC as your profile picture, you may want to change it. When my son was in BC, I put up a picture of him when he was 3 years old. It was still my "baby", but he had changed so much over the years, that the RDC's could not have possibly have recognized who he was.
So glad that calls and letters are starting to come in...puts perspective on things, just to hear their voices and see their words.
Support and encourage...continue to write and send them the good stuff!
And yes, I'm so thankful for all my friends here!!!
raca: This is nothing new to us N4Moms veterans....it is known that some of the RDCs are on this site and have been since the site was started in 2008. They could actually be in the FB groups too...having said that, don't want anyone to be frightened off. We N4Moms veterans have some suggestions to allow you all to post here but not jeopardize your SRs:
Do not post actual contents of your SR's letters. Some ladies in the past have posted entire letters on here. Not a good thing to do...and not sure your SRs would want their letters shared in their entirety with people anyway. There is nothing wrong with sharing the events they describe, the food being good (or bad!), etc. Probably not a good idea to share any comments regarding the RDCs.
Just try not to get to personal on details. Please feel free to private message "friends" anything that you think may be of a personal nature. That is fine.
Again, I have been on this site since 2009. The purpose of this site is to support families/friends of the SRs and that is what we try to do here---this group has been very successful with that. We provide info to you all, you all share info with each other, and you all emotionally support one another. That is so important for you while you are enduring the bootcamp period.
So please, ladies. Stay on here. Ask any questions you like. No a problem. If you are in doubt whether it can be posted---private message it. That is safe!
Thanks for posting this, raca, so that we can address it. Don't want any ladies getting off here for that reason.
Okay ladies I have a concern. One recruit wrote to his mom and asked her to be careful what she says on here. That some of the RDC's read our comments on N4Ms out loud to the group. This is a concern for me because we are trying to keep our letters to our boys/girls upbeat and lean on each other when we are feeling down. I guess I always realized they could read this but did not think they would air our feelings out to the division in front of our kids. I guess I will have to keep most of my feelings quiet now huh?
Yayyy Finally got a letter!! Hubby says shots sucked and ever since has had a small cold but he was one of the first people to pass inspection without any mistakes... He said he doubled his requirement for push up and sit up test and was 2 min under on his run :) He is the Portwatch Section Leader so he is the one responsible for picking who is on watch and for the log they keep. I guess when they are marching hes the dude in the front and calls out commands. It also means any time one of the "young dumb dudes" messes up he gets extra PT for them.... He says the food is great IF they get there first otherwise they run out of the "good stuff"... I wish he would have said something about his bunk mate so I could find out who hes paired with! He said because of his job he doesnt get much chance to write he said probably next sunday or sooner if he can get a quick chance!!
