Jess' Mom, I was the same way. I sat on my porch swing every day waiting for the mail to come and I loved it. After boot camp was over I really missed getting the letters.
Jess' Mom: Letters in the mailbox are so wonderful! With email, texts, cellphones now in our world...they are such a "thing of the past" for so many. I was like you...I couldn't wait to get the letters from my SR. Those were the only personal letters I have received in my mailbox in forever. There is just a joy in getting something like that in the mailbox...amongst the normal "trash" and bills that come in there! And to take your time to read the letters...over and over again. Sadly, after bootcamp, when contact is back with your new sailor, the letters stop....sigh. Wish they didn't!
They are allowed to mail out once a week in the beginning. Every RDC is different...but most divisions will be able to mail out more often later in bootcamp. Again, up to the RDC. My letters always came on Thursdays (5 of them). Not sure if my son could have mailed out more often...maybe he just wanted to write once a week? Not sure.
Good morning all!
When I was little I remember waiting each day for the mail man to come with what might contain letters from family members. My grandma and my great aunt were prolific letter writers and I loved getting mail. I have missed that, and didn't realize how much until I am again waiting every day for the mail man. I know it may be a while before that first letter, but am I the only one that finds that "maybe" exciting. I'm also enjoying writing letters, I find myself jotting down notes all day to add to a letter later. How many letters should we expect, I know Wednesday is the most common day to receive them.
Paula, posted a comment on your Profile page dear.
Mine don't like it either...poor puppy dogs...
Goodness, yes, that is a lot of lightning! I guess my son and I are sharing the weather though---it is lightning and thundering awful here also. My dogs won't stop barking because they hate storms..
Oh my...it's raining and lightning in GL. I knew the Weather widget was interactive...and I have seen it snow in winter...but never lighting.
I know the WW is large but this is the smallest size for it to be so that it is interactive. Play around with it. The very top bar has the current date and time and then just below it the next four days...click the arrow and it will show more. Click the "LIVE" tab anytime to go back to current time.
The rest of the bar is for the marker (green) to move along throughout the day. You can click anywhere on it to change the time. So, if you don't see this until morning go back a day to about 12:30 AM and watch for awhile!
Hey...in the bottom left corner the number and the Olympic rings is a countdown for the London Olympics!
Wow...you can see the streaks and the whole screen lights up...
Sleep tight...to the Sailors and recruits at RTC...G'nite!
