We reserved rooms at the Navy Lodge, but we have not made flight reservations yet. I am not sure if we will leave late Friday evening or Saturday morning as John's A School is in San Antonio. So, thinking it might be wise to go ahead and fly home Friday night and then drive down to SA the next day...it will be labor day weekend, so we won't have to come home until Monday! However, it is contingent on when he is scheduled to leave GL and report to A school in SA. My husband thinks he may be able to get leave between boot camp and A school.

I was so excited to get my son's address he is ship 09 DIV 274.  I love all the support and conversation!  PIR countdown... 8/31

Discussion started!! I also put links in for the discussion and the group page on...

And thanks for the tip on Southwest, but I checked and they'e not going to work for our locations (within 90 minutes)...I do like the no fee thing for changes though, so it may mean we drive a bit further to be able to do it. I've been looking at Milwaukee as an alternative...I've read that rental cars are cheaper out of there than Ohare...and that midway is a traffic nightmare...which I hate!

Will do whatever we need to though I guess...it's all about our SR!!

275/276....sorry!

Comment by diannep on July 15, 2012 at 10:13am

ohcheet:  Check out fares from Southwest Airlines.  They are running specials right now, I heard.  $69/each way.  AND....there is no change fee and 2 bags ship for free.  Check flights into Chicago-Midway and also Milwaukee.  Milwaukee will have less traffic and may be cheaper.  A little closer than Midway.

Can I ask you to start a discussion above for 275/275 rather than having a separate group?  Easier for the ladies to get on and still stay on this page.  That is what we do with the divisions rather than start separate groups off this page.

Just click on ADD A DISCUSSION above and start it!  Thanks!

Got my form letter yesterday, too. With just one line he wrote on the back, "Love you guys." That's my Johnny, not gonna get a whole lot out of him. :) I will take that though.

I went ahead and set up the group for ship 9 div 275/276 TG 42...hope no one else had already done it (I didn't see when I searched!)
http://www.navyformoms.com/group/ship-9-div275-276-tg42

I'm not nearly as tech savvy as some of  you, so feel free to go out and add some glitz and fun!

Thanks!

PS- my SR is Ship 9, Div 276...future Nuke.

I got my letter yesterday too! I'm so glad...although I'm still missing him, it's easier knowing that there's a light at the end of the tunnel now.

I made hotel reservations, but am having issues with the flights...I hesitate to make a reservation, knowing that it might change and cost us $300 to get new flights! I don't see anything on the sites (travelocity, expedia, and even the airline sites) about trip insurance, just a hefty fine, or upgrade to flexible fares for more than the cost of the actual tickets!

Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

I finally got my form letter yesterday (Saturday).  He is in Ship 02 Div 942.  I'm glad that he got into the performance Div -- make up for ll those trips to drill meets in HS!  I join the group of moms who had to laugh when I opened to box -- typical of my son, a wad of dirty, stinky clothes with the precious shoes laid neatly and pristinely on top.  Wr are actually from Pensacola which would be great except his A School should be in Groton, CT!
