Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by taptap22 on July 26, 2013 at 9:10am: Happy Friday! Another one down - Yea!! I've been counting down Friday's till PIR - lol. Hoping & praying to get a letter from my son today...ship 12/Div 331 I know there are several of us waiting on mail - today is the day!!

Said it affects the entire team, but I said it nicer than he did in his letter. He's almost 24 and showing the maturity that I hoped he would. Says he tells them not to talk.

I was able to talk to my SR this past weekend and she said that she had written quite a bit but couldn't send it out yet. I still haven't gotten my personal letter yet either. Hoping it will be in the mail today... but I've been saying that for a week.

Yep, the Challenge Coins are a special connection to their Boot Camp days and the ships connected to RTC are designed by Craig, one of the administrators here on Navy for Moms. The link is www.pirgifts.com . The section with the 70 coins has other special ones like the Core Values one and Love My Sailor. There are also the ones for their ratings (jobs), but you don't get those for them until they are just about done with A school. If you click on any of the coins, there is a video that talks about the history of the Challenge Coin~~
