~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

ok thank you sooooo much again!   wish I would've found this group a couple months ago  lol.  I will definitely be checking in on here a lot now.

Glad to help, tbritton!  Keep Sarge's number with you though in case you decide to use his shuttle.  If you go to his MeetandGreet the night before, you can sign up there.  The MeetandGreet info is to the right of this page.  His is a great one for lots of info for PIR weekend!

diannep   thank you so much for all of the information!  I think I will drive to the metra train station.  I will have my 16 month old grand daughter with me and that seems lie the best to me.  again thank you so much.  I feel a lot better.

Comment by diannep on August 31, 2013 at 10:41pm

tbritton:  Navy Lodge is not within walking distance, mainly due to lack of sidewalks--- and traffic congestion.  But you can call Sarge and use his shuttle service ($3/pp each way)   847 212 0246  Or....you can drive to PIR and park at the Metra (train station) which is next to RTC.

We have never quite understood the pattern of the passwords so they really can't be shared....RTC asks that you NOT share them anyway.

You really only need this gate pass if you plan to drive onto the base.   If your sailor will be staying on RTC that night, you can actually drop him off at the front gate since you won't have the pass.  Again, not a problem...just a little further walk for him to his ship.
So it's ok.  You can do without the pass if you don't get the password.  Don't bother calling the Public Affairs Office...they cannot give you the password...only your SR can do that.  But...I think you will be fine!

Glad you found the groups here....they will be helpful to you during A School and duty station too!  :-)

I told him today when he called there was a section in his paperwork for the password but he left it blank.  He told me today he hasn't found anything out about it.  I knew it was confidential but someone on the chat told me to try here.  I thought it was worth a shot.  I am staying at the Navy Lodge and I think it is within walking distance and I also have the shuttle phone number so I will check that out. Thanks

tbritton- It is my understanding this password if confidential and we are not tell anyone the password. It should have came in your very first letter from your SR.

Hello I just found out about these groups on the main page chat room from a Navy for moms member.  I had no idea that these groups were on here.  I am having trouble getting the password for the pass to drive onto the base on PIR Graduation.  My son was able to call today and he still couldn't find anything out.  A member mentioned that I may be able to get the password through this group.  Can anyone help?

So proud of 340 - I really needed that call!  My son was having a Snickers & a Red Bull - says that's what he wants after BS21 too.

Breathing easier today than I have in 2 months. LOL.  Yesterday's "I'm a Sailor" call was amazing...she sounds so grown up and confident....still her snarky self but there's a maturity there.  She hasn't had momma there steering her decisions, it's been all on her, and she's learned to be an adult.  It's in her voice.  I am prouder than I've ever been in my whole life.  :)

By the way, if you haven't heard, 340 won the Captains Cup, 339 got second, and I haven't heard yet who got all male.  Woot to those divisions!!  Lots of them getting Ricky Heaven today so keep the phones close!
