~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good morning everyone!!  Can anyone recommend a car rental company out of O'Hare?

Comment by CatMom509 on July 24, 2013 at 5:51am

Tammy,

Yep, like diannep said, you can give your Sailor his cell phone, charger, laptop, and power adapter to him when you meet him at the airport (which might be Midway) before he heads out to Pensacola.  They have to remember to lock up their electronics even if they walk out of their room for only a little bit.  My Sailor daughter was able to use her cell phone immediately and she actually bought a new laptop online!

Thank you for all the information everyone!  It's great to have this site to come to!

Ship 3 Div 338: My son also said they were told that only 3 people could go into PIR but that it could change. They were told to write down 4 names in case it changed. Wonder why it is just this division reporting this... Hoping it will be 4.

cbsdss, that is awesome that he will be so close!  Not so much for me as we are in Colorado.  My retirement goal is a beach somewhere, so I can check it out while I am there.  Spent some time during summers in Myrtle Beach when I was in jr. high, loved it there.

I hope it's 4 because me my husband and our 2 girls plan on being there!

bchis:  No overnights allowed for the new sailors.  I'm assuming yours is staying in GL for A School?  If so, she will check into that base shortly after PIR....takes a few hours....then she will call you to pick her up there (it is next to RTC).  She will have Daytime Liberty for the weekend with a curfew each day.

For those flying out to A School, they will be bussed late Fri night/early Sat morning to wait for flights.  Families can meet their sailors there.

Comment by diannep on July 23, 2013 at 10:36pm

Just to add to JLM's post.....Southwest also flies into Milwaukee (45 min drive to GL).  Less traffic, sometimes cheaper flights....so check Southwest into both Chicago-Midway and Milwaukee.

Comment by diannep on July 23, 2013 at 10:33pm

Tammy:  Yes, he should be able to take them with him to A School....just meet him at the airport with them.  As far as using them when he first gets there, if for some reason he cannot, he just locks them up.  You may want to ask more about it on the Pensacola group on this site, but we have not heard of sailors not being able to take them to A School.

Tammy:  It could be that they know already how many divisions are in this PIR group. RTC has not posted it yet.  In order to only be allowed 3 guests, they have to have 13 divisions or more.  Not sure what is taking so long for RTC to post the divisions in this group, but hopefully tomorrow we will know.

Comment by Tammy - Ship 3 Div 338 on July 23, 2013 at 10:29pm

ok....I got a question. My sig other (who apparently knows everything about the Navy since his dad was in the Navy 40 years ago) keeps telling me that my son will not be able to use his phone and computer once he gets to A school. My sons recruiter has told me that he will be able to take both phone and laptop to Pensacola with him and use it during his off time. Can anyone help me with this one?
