~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Good Morning All !

CatMom:  You were fortunate your daughter allowed you to stay with her at the hotel until 9:30!.  My son would not even allow us to go in!  He was meeting his out of town recruiter there and we wanted to meet him sense we never had (although my son was 23 when he went in, had lived on his own, so obviously was handling all on his own).  He told us later it just was easier to say the "goodbyes" there....

My Sailor daughter took the time to write a note after we had finally left her at the hotel after staying with her until 9:30 pm, so she already tucked it in the tiniest pocket in her jeans for the next day when she arrived in Great Lakes!  It's so sweet to think that she was writing that while we were driving 2 hours home sniffling all the way~~  :)

Thanks, everyone for your input.  I checked the postmarks and the form letter was mailed the day after the regular letter, so I am going with the 3410.  I had also gotten that address from the recruiter and mailed him a letter late last week with one of the questionnaires I found on here.  I guess I will see when/if I get it.  While I could here his voice in his letter, it surprised me that he said a down side was their inability to talk much.  He isn't much of a talker, so it must be pretty minimal.  LOL

Oregon mom: I've been sending to Ship 14 Div 336, 3410 Sailor Dr, so if your form letter says that I guess I got lucky and sent to the right one! I also read sone where that most times if you have the right ship and division it should still get to them, it just might take longer.

Wyattsmom:  Here is Ship 14's address according to the RTC page:

Ship 14
3410 Sailor Drive
Great Lakes, IL
60088-3510

amy pa mom:  There would be brother divisions that each have guys/girls in them.  They train together, but obviously have separate barracks!  :-)

Sarge's MeetandGreet will have the most info for you!  Most will be attending that one.

It is economically better to rent a car if you can.  The shuttles (Sarge) can get a little pricey unless you share with others....

Recommended hotels by others on this site are:

Navy Lodge

Springhill Suites Waukegan/Gurnee

Residence Inn Waukegan/Gurnee

Holiday Inn Express Waukegan/Gurnee

Courtyard Inn Waukegan Gurnee

All but Navy Lodge are very close to Sarge's MeetandGreet, but Navy Lodge isn't that far away.  Navy Lodge is closest to RTC....the others are 4-5 miles away.

Any suggestions on where to stay and if we should rent a car?  We think he will fly to Texas on 9/7-8 so want to be able to stay with him at the airport until he leaves.  We are looking at flying Southwest into Midway Airport on 9/5 and back to Boise on 9/8, probably the latest flight we can get in case he doesn't leave until Sunday.  Also, have you picked a Meet and Greet yet?  We are leaning towards Sarge's.  Any input is greatly appreciated.

Wyattsmom:  My son is also Ship 14 Div 336.  The form letter I got today has 3410 Sailor Drive, zip 60088-3510.  He wrote on the back of the form letter: use this address, the first was wrong so I am mailing to it and hope it is right.

I also could see/hear my son through his letter.

NavyDad206: Is this the same address you have for your daughter? Thanks.

Hi Donna (Ship??/Div ??): We are in Ontario, Oregon, only about 60 miles west of Boise.  Our son entered the reserves thru DEP in July 2012.  He flew out of Boise on July 9th, 2013.  We got the "I am fine" 15 sec. call @ 9:30 pm MST on 7/9/13.  It was a huge relief to get the letter from him yesterday.  He sounded like himself.  He stated that he was in a good division and his bunk mate is good so he will be fine.  He had written it on Saturday, 7/13/13, earlier than normal because they were good.  Hopefully you will get a letter tomorrow, personal or form. : )
