~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

bchis,

It was really a pleasure to help this group out.  When I was a youngin' at UCLA, I commuted, so never had to deal with college campuses in the night~~  Mwahahaha!!!

Checking back in after a crazy week!  Wasn't PIR amazing???!!!  :)  My sailor had to leave first thing Sat morning, so not much time with her, not even in the USO because they were so crowded they were turning the non military people away even with passes. (O'Hare)  But now she is in San Diego (Point Loma) waiting to class up for A school and got in her permanent barracks yesterday with her roommate.  Originally A school was to start next Monday, but as it turns out there were only 3 spots and they were picked randomly today.  She wasn't one of them.  So now she waits and does whatever needs doing.  The only trouble she's had was losing her wallet on the plane.  (head to desk)  It fell out of her backpack I guess, with her DL, SS card, and debit card.  That was her first night there, so not the greatest first night, lol.  But she's having to deal with it and make the phone calls and do the grownup things right off the bat.  Sigh.....

I haven't been on many bases. I didn't really feel unsafe but they do need more lighting. My memories from college mixed with shadow creepers... yikes.

Didn't know about the camp grounds! That is pretty cool. I spent a lot of time on the base this weekend too. It reminded me a lot of college. Way too much, actually... The place isn't lit up very well at night. I thought it was creepy how many people were lurking around in the darkest areas.

@Oregon Mom  DD is in Monterey but will be heading to San Antonio in April. :)  We didn't get to go to the airport, due to the fact that we left at 3:00 that morning, and she didn't get on the bus to the airport until 3:45.

OregonMom:  Also, here is a link that may be helpful:

http://www.cellreception.com/coverage/tx/san-antonio/page1.html

Your sailor can find this out too by others' experiences there on the base with him.

Just wanted to give another shout out to everyone that helped me through the last couple months. This page has given me a place to come when I needed someone to talk to or to vent my frustrations.

Thanks!

OregonMom:  That is a good question to ask on the San Antonio group on here.

kirine: We gave our Sailor his phone at the airport and when he arrived at his A school he discovered that he has little to no service. He is going to go buy one. I decided to let him do it because he wants to keep his contacts. Is your DD in Texas? I wondered which cell provider works the best in San Antonio. Any advice anyone?
Comment by kirine on September 10, 2013 at 8:46am

Heard from DD last night :D  P/X doesn't have cells and she's not allowed off base, so her first care package going out in the next few days is going to include a cell. :)
