~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

t4inparker:  Contact your insurance agent.  Seems that someone had posted a while back they you can get some "temporary" insurance for military home on leave, but not sure about that.

What does everyone do for insurance when they are home on leave?  We had cancelled his car insurance when he left for BC because it's so expensive , but when he's home he'll want to drive to see friends.

I just want you all to know I still love ya lol. I have not forgotten about you!!! We are traveling around the world this weekend haha. Well not really. My Sailor and baby Eastyn came home last Monday and surprised us. GREAT Surprise :) She rode back home with her in-laws so that meant she needed a way back to VA Beach. So Friday we all headed to my son's Fire Academy Boot Camp graduation near Charlotte. It was so nice to finally see him again after 8 long weeks. Very proud of him <3 We spent the night with my brother in Charlotte. Left yesterday morning to go to Wilmington NC to move our other daughter into her new apartment at UNCW. It's like a convoy with a 14' UHAUL and two cars lol. Today we say goodbye to her and leave Wilmington and head to VA Beach to take our Sailor and Eastyn home. We will spend the night there and then drive back 7-8 hours home to WNC tomorrow. Man I am pooped and that is a lot of traveling with a 3 week old baby. I promise things will get back to normal in a few days and you will have lots of my attention :) I hope you all are having a great weekend.

Thank you all for the information. I'll discuss it with her and see what she wants to do. Someone just explained to me that during the holiday, if she stays she would be allowed lots of liberty up to 300 miles but no more than 72 hours.

I'm not concerned about the cost of traveling so I could possibly just go up there and stay for a little while. That way, we wouldn't use her leave and I would still get family time with her.

I never knew that vacation(leave) time had to be used on days like Christmas... I can just picture her sitting up there by herself on christmas morning doing absolutely nothing or standing watch over nothing because the place is on Stand Down. Ugh...

Comment by diannep on August 18, 2013 at 8:18am

Length of leave after A School is determined by number of Leave days and date the sailor must report to duty station.  My son had 14 days, but others have had less time.

Good Morning All !

bchis,

I see that Holiday Stand Down and your wife finishing A school is about 1 month apart.  Stand Down may be only 1 week of leave to be taken--1/2 the base takes it the week before Christmas and the other 1/2 takes leave the week after Christmas.  It depends on the base.  Also, don't know how far you are from GL, but I believe the plane ticket to your home and back to GL will be paid by your wife.

If she waits to take her leave after A school, then the Navy pays for the ticket from GL to her first duty station and your wife would pay for the ticket to be diverted to your home.  She would get to take about 2 weeks of leave (unless she gets assigned to a ship that is deploying quickly).

Just things for you to consider.  Better to have all the possibilities then to be surprised!

That sounds awesome! I'm pretty sure she will do the RAP thing. Her A school will be over in January. It's 4 months long and her papers show that she will begin about a month after PIR weekend.

bchis,

Also, the leave she takes after completing A school is different from the Stand Down time when the base closes down.  RAP-- recruiter's assistance program --duty where a Sailor works at a recruiter's office from Monday - Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm enables 5 days of leave to be credited back to the Sailor when they report to their first duty station.  It allows them to have more leave days at their hometown and they can come home after working at the recruiting office to have dinner and do things with the family~~  Like diannep said, RAP duty can only be done after completion of A school.  If a Sailor decides not to do it, he/she cannot try to do it another time.  Lots of good news, huh?

How long is your wife's A school training at GL?

By the way, you have it right that phasing up does not depend on classing up.  Phase II is when you can see her on liberty, about 2 weeks after she is at A school.

Oh boy, ellen0502 & diannep!!

ALL Sailors regardless of how long they have been in get to come home on leave for Christmas??  Can either of you please give me a contact for the Norfolk base to verify their calendar?  Thanks!  :D
