While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by BridgetTheBrit (Ship 11/Div 340) on August 9, 2013 at 8:42pm: I should note - my husband was in MI, so he needed top secret clearance to work at the Pentagon and then later for forward intel maneuvers (still not quite sure what he did - not sure that I want to know either, jk!!). They even checked international relatives out for that one!!

He went through a couple of years ago so things may have changed. And of course both my husband and I are American born so that may be the difference with what you are dealing with. I am sorry if that is the case, but hang in there. Your son will be grateful for any hoops you have jumped through for him to get his dream.

Comment by 1navyson on August 9, 2013 at 8:27pm: SydsMom- Just wondering what is your SR going to do as a job? Maybe they need higher clearance? I have not had anyone ask about my SR. Maybe you better check in with your recruiter and see if it is standard practice. If it isn't and it is a concern your recruiter may be able to give you some guidance.

My hubby, who had a top secret clearance as a member of the Army, said, "yes, depending on your SR's future job and clearance requirements." We certainly had to go through it with my husband! We are anticipating the same for our SR since he is going nuke. In fact, don't get me started on what we are going through right now because I am a naturalized citizen and not American born!!!!!

Comment by SydsMom(Ship11Div339) on August 9, 2013 at 8:13pm: Happy Friday fellow PIR 9/6 Families! I'm feeling very happy to have gotten a letter and a phone call this week. My SR sounded much better than she did last week. I have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated all of your stories, information, support, guidance, etc. It means the world to me to be going through this process with so many wonderful families.

FYI... I have a reservation I am cancelling at the Navy Lodge the weekend of graduation. If anyone was interested in staying and it was booked, I will be calling tomorrow to cancel. Maybe someone might want that available room?? (We decided to stay at The Courtyard Marriott)

I am also wondering if others have had meetings with "special agents" regarding their SR. I met with someone today who is interviewing my SR's friends, neighbors, employers, personal references, school principal and others. Is this standard practice for EVERY recruit. I can't imagine an agent interviewing all these people for every recruit. Should I be concerned or is this standard practice. Any information would help.

They had been up since 3 in the morning for physical tests but someone called a time out for a medical problem and the tests had to be cancelled and rescheduled for next week. Also received my USS Hopper coin in the mail and it's beautiful.
