Ok, I think my seasonal company is over. Don't get me wrong, I love everyone who come to visit but I had such a whirl wind year! My niece and her BF left a bit ago.

If anyone wants to see Marcs company run you can. They run every Sunday in town and this hotel always records them and posts it on FB. Just go on your FB page and put Blue Fish Inn in the search bar then go to their wall page and it will come up. You don't have to be a friend to view. Marcs company is Zulu 184 . It a short video but it's pretty cool.

I didnt know that's what cranking ment d o. Pretty good definition. Oh and as for Spirit Airlines, I flew For them before, for 11 years. I dont think they fly where Mary is at but the do fly to SJO. They are cheap but be careful, they nickel and dime you to death. To speak to a customer service on the phone you have to pay. Yes, it's that bad. I fly them only when I have to otherwise I seek alternate airlines. And I'm a former employee!

Yay! AJ got an email! So happy there is an end in sight! So so happy for you! I loved your story about your gardener. So funny. How one little slip makes a meaning so different. I give you a lot of credit. I have a terrible accent in any language I try to learn. I think I will stick to English!

Aw, iris, I can't believe Haley went back already. Much to soon, but now you get to look forward to your vacation there! Ok, I know it's not the same, just want to cheer you up like you've done for me many times. I just love all the Trasion show pics! Wow you guys seem like a bunch of fun. Oh, and I loved the pics at the shooting range. Good time!

Hey Mary, keep AJ in mind if you ever need a job, you would be great down there. Have hubby retire and take the plung! Matt said to tell derrick to come on down to KB. Matt and Marc will show him a good time. Matt has his boat there now and takes it out on his days off.

Shelly, I thought dyl was on his ship already. Didn't know he was waiting. Does he get to sight see?

Ok, well lots of RSL's oh and of course dragon flies!( love them!)

Ding, ding, ding .... we have a winner!  d o was the first ... and so the official winner.  Did you know d o?  Or have to look it up?  You still win either way, just wondered if you already knew it.  It sucks being junior enlisted!  I'm pretty sure he didn't get in trouble ... he goes straight by the book in the Navy .... not so much at home, but wow, in the Navy .... I remember when I picked him up one weekend while he was in A school, he was carrying his electric razor with him and was shaving like every half hour, just in case we ran into anyone who would say that he was not passing inspection .... and this with blond facial hair!  I could not believe that was my son!  Would I ever love to be a fly on the wall in that galley .... wonder if he is up to his elbows in greasy, soapy water cleaning pots and pans, or peeling all of those potatoes?!  He had not one, not a single complaint about it though.  A-maz-ing.

And yes, d o is correct.  Spirit does fly down here.  And their fares are really cheap.  Just be careful, because they add on everything as an extra charge:  luggage, pre-flight seat assignments, something else, toilet use and .50 per square of toilet paper!  Ha!  No, not really on the toilet necessity.  But be sure to stay focused and keep answering no or the price will go up.  Definitely worth checking them out!

Congratulations d o!

Just lost the whole post-Boo, and it was good!

crank
(US Navy) An enlisted sailor who is doing temporary duty in a ship's galley. On most ships/subs junior enlisted will work full time for many weeks or months in the galley doing menial tasks like washing dishes or scrubbing floors before moving back to their assigned rate and division. "Cranking" or "Mess cranking" is a verb for this situation. Cranking can be occasionally used as a method of EMI. (See EMI)
E.M.I.
(US) : Extra Military Instruction. In military training establishments it is a supposed learning opportunity for a serviceman to better learn some military instruction. It is not supposed to be (but most often is) a non-judicial punishment that usually consists of some menial task like running in place with arms outstretched from the chest while holding a rifle (Army) or changing into every uniform once an hour for inspection (a "Fashion Show") (Navy) . This punishment is used for individuals who have difficulty following instructions, or show excess attitude towards company commanders/authority figures.

Do I win?!  Or does Iris win with all her fun and creativity?(How would you like to do a Navy fashion show?)  What a fun family.  Let's celebrate Haley's visit by reliving every moment with us and by remembering that you are on the short calendar to your own Hawaiian trip. Did the two of you plan every thing out for the trip?

AJ that is wonderful that you heard from A!  Who would have thought 4 sentences could mean so much.  I can just imagine your relief.  I'm rejoicing with you.

Have you all ever heard of Spirit airlines?  I think they might have some cheap flights.

Mary I know with all the brains you have around your house you might find it hard to believe that I don't know how to post pictures on the computer.  I'm also very private, to the point that I don't do facebook or any of the other sites.  This is really the first forum I've ever shared on, mostly because we're all in the same boat. LOL  I'm also very extemporaneous so it's not good to have some of my random thoughts forever embedded in cyberspace.  So I'm really taking a leap of faith with you all, and I've enjoyed it so much.

I've never sent those. Sent my daughter  her favorite Costco chocolate covered raisins, pepperoni in a can, chips, double stuffed oreos, pop tarts, flavors for water, granola bars, etc. I almost bought her some mac n cheese individuals in a cup but glad I didn't now. Thanks for the heads up.

She did tell me she would take some of our rain and I could have some of her sun. Told her that was a deal. LOL

Thanks Donna .... just read on my ship site that one of the things to NOT send on a care package is pop top soups .... apparently the heat makes those puppies 'pop' prematurely .... very messy .... this person's package was actually returned to her if you can believe that.  If you haven't heard it yet, they are always wanting snack foods for obvious snacking but also when they get so busy that it is difficult to wait in the chow line for food, eat, and get the job done.  So, no pop top soups or foods!

Oh boy, yippee, and it's about bloody time!  River City must be over!  For now.  I just received a four sentence e-mail from my son!  Not a lot of info, except that he has no time at all because he is working so hard, will try to call as soon as he can, that he has a 90-day duty of 'cranking' and is one month into it now.  Do you guys know what cranking is?  I guess most everyone has to take a turn at this.  I know, but checking your Naval intelligence.  First one with the correct answer gets to ride in the front seat from the airport!

So glad to have communication back with the ship.  Hoo Yah!  He replied to my Happy Easter e-mail to him.  :)           :)

d o .... if we pull this off, we will certainly have to figure out how to get you here without a lot of money .... who do you know with frequent flyer miles that just might share?

The thing is, if you can get here, the place would be free to stay .... you would just need money for food .... and we can all chip in and cook some rather than going out a lot ....... you can eat cheaply here and you can eat expensively here .... depends on what your requirements are.  I would be able to pick anyone up from the airport .... so it really isn't too complicated.

Comment by AJ on May 16, 2011 at 3:08pm
I say that thing about the baseline Mary, because you can find fares down here from $300 to $1,500 and I want to get you a sense of the right amount for this time of year and on the cheapest airline.  My last from Denver was $424 on American and they still give you two check on bags for free.

This Trashion Show thing could really take off ... you guys should do a video and put it on You Tube ..., you'd end up on the Ellen (Degeneres) Show or something!  And we could say we knew you when ........

Thinking of you Iris as you send Haley back to Hawaii.  We're here to be your distraction.

Here's a dumb funny one for you.  There is a guy who works on the property here as a gardener ... his name is Pedro.  My Spanish isn't too bad and isn't too great ... I can Spanlish my way through most things.  Anyway, I wanted to ask him to bring a wheelbarrow back up with him when he came to feed the dogs at lunch time.  Instead of saying 'Please bring the wheelbarrow when you come to feed the dogs' ..... I said, 'Please bring the wheelbarrow when you come to eat the dogs' .... he laughed and I couldn't figure out why unless it was my pronunciation of wheelbarrow, which was pretty bad .... but about 20 minutes later I realized what I said .... had a good laugh ..... I apologized to him later for getting it so wrong.  I clearly need to practice more.

I only have another second here and have to go for a bit, but I'm glad to hear that you are checking things out Mary .... SJO is the airport (San Jose) ... make sure you see Costa Rica when you plug that in ..... Hank's sister bought a ticket to come down here two years ago and didn't pay attention and booked herself a nice ticket to San Jose, California!  Anyway, if you use those three letters, you can't go wrong.  American, Continental and Frontier seem the cheapest, in that order.  Midweek is almost always cheaper.  I'm going to do some checking too, to give you a good baseline to work with.  Where would you fly out of in Iowa?  Des Moines, Cedar Rapids?  Let me know.

And yes, Iris, it would be amazing to host you here.  What fun would we have!  We can make dresses out of tropical foliage!  I still have to get clearance, but I'm an optimist!  Woo Hoo!  Whose turn is it to make the drinks?

:)  This morning I was cleaning some balsa pods, listening to the toucan making its noise behind me, with a dragonfly dancing around me, birds singing, and an iguana watching my every move.  It was so cool. :)

Be back in a while.  RSL and Dragonflys.
