Nicole, Just think, not much longer and it will be you.
Well, my daughter is now officially on the plane awaiting take-off to Japan, It really happened this time. More emotional than I thought I would be. Of course, I am always emotional these days. Glad she called to say goodbye just before she boarded. Praying for safe travels for all that left today.
Adorable photos Mrs.B!:)
well guys, I got some bittersweet news, G got rolled up and leaves may 25th and not june 6th, not too much of a difference besides that i have finals the day he leaves home and day he gets in, so i'll be tearing up all over my finals. but i guess that means he will get out sooner.
He's excited and i'm excited, yet sad.
I've been trying to skim read up on everything but my computer has been malfunctioning so i'll leave it short and sweet.
have a GREAT weekend:))))))
Awwwwwww....baby TJ!! Those photos just made me smile :)
Yep Hurley - He ended up undesignated (long and boring story). No rate = no real job. He's with the Seabees, working on tug boats etc, barge handling, building floating bridges and jetties in San Diego.
My sister just mentioned the California Maritime University - they have a graduate program that he may qualify for since he's already got his BS - he could get a Masters in Maritime Transportation and Engineering Mgmt. Might be perfect. GI Bill is the bomb!
Mrs. B, Absolutely adorable pics!!! I can totally relate to his family. My mom told me the same thing my whole life. Always said I would never amount to anything. I take after my dad and she didn't like him. Funny thing is, he is known all over the world in the oil fields. I actually feel more sorry for her than me.
Well My daughter finally flies out tomorrow morning to finally meet her ship. Sounds like a full 2 day process with all the short flights and looong layovers. She is so dreading that but looking forward to meeting her ship.
Mary, I would say that the dogs are not puppies anymore. I couldn't handle that.
Hi Ladies! I hope this picture turns out. I can't really tell how it will look on the screen.
Anyways, we still haven't heard back from Fry's, but they said they might call him on Monday, at the latest. We are REALLY praying this works out. We still don't have a place to live, which is sorta panicking me, but we found a friend who might be able to co-sign with us until we're making 2 1/2x the amount of rent. We found a nice 1 bedroom 1 bath apartment for pretty cheap in a good area of town today. If we can find someone willing to co-sign with us, then we'll be able to do it. We didn't get credit until we joined the Navy, etc. So anyways, it'll work out, I know. It's just a stretching time for us.
Anyways, Life is still good. We got myself and TJ on WIC (of course Paul can eat the food I get) and also, we got on some food stamps stuff and CA is ridiculous with the amount of money they give us per month to help with food! It's like over $500!!!! I have NEVER spent $500 a month for food. We're going to be eating like kings! Of course, we don't want to stay on food stamps forever. We're going to get on our feet, go to college, etc, but for now, it's a BIG blessing.
I have decided on a career for my life. I am going to seriously become a doula, which is German for "birth assistant." I am SO excited about it and I even started reading my 1st book that is required for becoming certified! It's like a HUGE thrill for me and it brings in pretty good money. I don't really want to do it for money, so I probably won't charge as much as most people. But it will be nice to bring in a bit extra income. I really want to help Paul in this, but yet still make him feel like he is the sole provider for the family. His family has really made him feel inadequate. His own mother called him a "failure, no good tramp" the other day when he was talking to her on the phone. It's really sad. His brother told him that he is retarded in person. It's really frustrating. People on his ship kept telling him he'd never get a job and that we'd end up homeless, etc. Argh. Anyways, so I really, REALLY want him to feel like he CAN do it! Which he has done a wonderful job providing for us and doing his very best. He is a hard worker and loves his little family so much. He is so tender hearted and gentle, sweet and normally pretty soft spoken. I know he is going to do his best to take care of us.
Well, I hope everyone is doing well! It's so nice to still be apart of the military family, being that my husband is a vet now. He earned 5 ribbons while in the Navy! And he became an E-2. :) I am pretty proud of him.
I'd better run for now. Have a great, great evening and weekend. :)
Morning Ladies - Happy Friday!!!
AJ - Yes actually several years ago I had a little old lady who was called by her "grandson" and he was in trouble and needed her to Western Union him money. So she went to her bank, got several thousand dollars and sent it. It turned out to be a scam. I was the Western Union clerk. Totally made me so mad. She didn't have the money to loose. This scam has been around for a long time and it's very effective. And lord, I love reading all you write. From one long winded gal to another, write on! =) Lol....
Hi all - just a quick drive by to see how everyone is doing :-) Sounds like everyone is hanging in there. So glad to see that things are ok with you MrsB! How cool that Dyl got the Enterprise - what a magnificent ship she is. AJ - very wise of you to pick up on the scam, and yes, the poor little bunnies will likely get worked over one way or another in every port, bless their hearts. Good that y'all seem to be communicating a bit better. So sorry you missed the calls Hurley :-(
Not much to report here - we'll be back in the states in a little more than two weeks now and I'm dying to be there. Having a family reunion on Mother's Day in FL and we think A can join us.
Right now he's thinking he wants to continue a career at sea in the Merchant Marines and try for a commercial captain's license. That requires 2 years experience at sea and when he gets out next Jan he'll only have 14 months so we're looking for ways to get him on a ship. I'm dusting off my professional recruiter skills to start networking for him. He seems positive he won't get to re-enlist when his time is up since he hasn't been given a chance to strike for a rate, and given the overstaffing issues they have now, I have to agree with him.
So fingers crossed, one way or another, he'll still be Captain A at some point down the road, and perhaps a heck of a lot faster than in the Navy :-)
Hi all! Just wanted to post a quick note before bedtime that dyl's received his orders. He'll be reporting to Norfolk,Va on May 3rd and will be serving on the carrier USS Enterprise. He's coming home next Friday for 12 days and then off he goes. Not sure on the C school yet. He won't find out about that until he gets there i guess. I'm not sure how it works but the ship is on deployment right now, so i guess they fly him to a port? Just learning as we go. He's really happy to finally get his orders although he was just starting to get the hang of working the in the legal office. Oh well.....just happy that he's happy.
Hope everyone and their sailors are doing well! I'll try to post more later....
Take care!
