~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Trying to understand how much time my son will have after graduation...He graduates 9/19 but then he is going to Charleston...he said he thought we would have Sunday together and that he would fly out monday...is this right? How can we make plans of any kind , take off from our jobs and plan our flights without knowing?
Hey Dozy.....I also have a son in Division 945! We were thriled to get the call yesterday! What ship is your son in? My Matt is Ship 2 Div 945. Hope you are doing wel!
Hello All!
"Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens.
Your faithfulness to the skies."
Psalm 36:5
My son is in Div 945 and we received his phone call yesterday. Since he is stay at the Great Lakes for A school - we will get a good portion of Saturday & Sunday - which works since we are flying in from Boston on Thursday and returning on Monday. My son sounds good and tells me he is very busy - not to much time to socialize. Best Wishes to All
Thanks for the info, Dianne! Will definitely keep the OHare Hilton idea in mind. And will give the "kid in a box" a few more days to arrive.
Vermontlover: No, not exactly true. Those staying in GL for A School will move over there shortly after PIR...takes several hours. They then are picked up there and have Liberty until about 10 pm that night. They will also have Liberty from early morning on Sat. and Sun. until about the same time at night....they must return to that base each night.
Those flying out most likely will leave on Sat., but occasionally it isn't until Sun. So it is best to book your return on Sun. if possible, not Sat. Those flying out have Liberty after PIR until 8 or 9 that night when they return to RTC. They are usually bussed a few hours later to the airports to wait for flights, which can start as early as 6 a.m. They won't know their flight schedules until shortly before PIR. You are welcome to meet them at the airport and wait with them. Just be sure to take ID so that you can get an airlines gate pass and wait at the gate with them until departure. Their flights will leave all through the day on Sat.
For those whose sailors don't fly out until late afternoon on Sat., and if flying from OHare, you may want to get a room at the OHare Hilton for the day rate of $55 so you and your sailor can get some rest and private time. The hotel is actually in the airport, so no problem. You are right there. Just be sure to ask for the day rate at the Hilton. Several on this site in the past have taken advantage of this.
The personal belongings boxes can take a while to get there.....some arrive right away, others may take a couple of weeks (same with form letters). Also, if they didn't take a phone with them, and planned to donate or throw away their clothing, they may not send home a box. They are allowed to keep their wallets, so if they just had the clothes on their back and their wallet, they may not have wanted to pay to send anything home. The SRs pay for shipping themselves.
Good Morning!
Jensue0: Received my son's box 1 week after he left. Did you miss it and FedEx left a note somewhere? Div 295. Thanks, I will check out PIR tips.
Friends,
I just put up my 'PERTINENT PIR TIPS" up in the Discussion Forum! Please check it out for any tips you can use for your own PIR~~
Hesh'sMom,
I rented a car from Enterprise-Rent-a-Car for about $125.00 for 3 days from the one near the Chicago O'Hare airport, so using Sarge, then also renting a car would be a double charge. Plus you will need to get to one of the airports and back if your SR will be flying out to A school, so you need to factor that in. I have rental info on my Pertinent PIR Tips that I will put in the Discussion Forum~~
