OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hesh'sMom:  You can call them and change it, or they will change it when you check in.  No problem.

CatMom509:  I just made my reservation at Lodge then read that I should put it under my SR's name.  Why is that?  Should I change it?

Hesh's - What's really funny with that picture is those on Iphones only see the written Meth Lab part.  Then they finally see the dogs. Man, that picture just cracks me up...

Some of the stuff you'll find that members post here are great things to send your recruits.  It will give them some humor while going though training.  Just motivate them, and keep them running smooth....  We love helping the future sailors here!!!!

Remember that the SRs were issued a Supply Debit Card when they arrived that they can use in the NEX....and can buy a phone card.  But it saves them money if you mail one.  Remember too that the pay phone connection eats up alot of their minutes on the cards, so get one with a large number of minutes if you mail one (250 or so).  In the meantime, many of the other SRs may lend others their phone cards....they are usually pretty good about that.

Have the Navy Lodge website saved on your Favorites because you will probably want to stay there when your SR has different duty stations later:

https://www.navy-lodge.com/index.html

For PIR, choose the Great Lakes one in Illinois.  Their phone number will be there and you should put the reservation under your SR's name~~  No deposit necessary!
