How do I find out when and where the Meet and Greets are for our PIR???
OMG!! Good morning everyone. My baby girl just called!! She was crying, because we have the hurricane coming in so she is worried. I am thinking they let her call because of the storm. My heart is over filled with joy! And she passed her first physical test!! I am one proud mom!!! Ship 9 / Div 327 Hearing her voice, it's just no words for how I feel right now!!! She got I love yous from all the girls here at work too. So I hope that made her feel good.
There are lots of good things about your children/loved ones being in bootcamp. Yes, you miss them like crazy, long to talk to them, receive a letter from them, hug them! Yep, all hard things. However:
You know where they are at all times....how often in their lives can you say THAT?
They are being fed healthy food, no alcohol/drug/harmful substance access, desserts are even forbidden or limited.
They are being exercised and physically trained
They are not allowed to fraternize with the opposite sex! This is a huge infraction....my son actually got asmoed (setback) because a shipmate did this...the girl wrote her number down for him....he showed it to my son, my son didn't report it, and when the "offender' was discovered, my son was brought into it. Asmoed for a week. Soooo....they don't mess around with that one!
They have access to medical/dental care right there---for free!!!.
They aren't on the streets late at night, not driving in any cars, they are staying put!
So, ladies, hope that gives you a little peace of mind. They are safe, being cared for, molded, trained, maturing, getting confidence, etc....you will see all of this for yourselves on PIR day and be so happy!
Ladies, for those wanting to chat with others in the same division, notice the division number in the screen name of people posting here. If you find someone in your division, click on their name or picture and friend request them! That is a great way to get to know each other. Once you have several friends in your division, you can actually send out emails on this site to all at the same time.
wonders: The ship number is just the barracks number. Several divisions are in the same ship. The division number is the important number!
Suggestions for hotels from personal accolades of those who have gone before you!
Residence Inn Waukegan (great for large groups as they have 2 bdrm 2 bth units and studios, all with full kitchens, and pet friendly. Free hot buffet breakfast too. We stayed there and loved it.
Springhill Suites Waukegan
Courtyard Inn Waukegan
All of these are Marriotts and nice. Be sure to ask for the Navy Grad rate or you can use AAA and other discounts. They all have the PIR shuttle. They are close to the WalMart shopping center where there are some restaurants, etc. Also very close to SARGE's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR....and this is the one of the 3 MeetandGreets that we N4Moms recommend you attend since he has so much info for you.
Ramada has a MeetandGreet also. We hear mixed reviews on the hotel itself...some say it is ok, some say not so ok. But many stay there.
Welcome to the new members of this group!
SRMom: My son was the first military person in ours also (other than his grandfather who was in the Army Air Corp for 2 yrs during WW 2). You will learn alot from this site. Just know that "civilians" may not understand your emotional feelings during bootcamp but we all understand on here. Many of your friends will liken it to a child leaving for college. Well, as traumatic as this is, at least you can still talk to them by SKYPE, on the phone, email, etc. But not so in bootcamp! "Someone else" is in charge of your child and doesn't check with you on anything! :-) So ask questions, vent here, share here...that is what this site is for!
Have a wonderful day, everyone!
Hi everyone! My son is Ship 14 Div 333 and I am so glad to have a place like this to come to for answers and information; this military thing is all new to me and my family. Hoping for a letter soon, just glad I finally know the date we will see him at PIR! Now to find a profile photo, lol.
Hi everyone my son is ship 14 div 334. Haven't heard from him yet but i am hopeful it will be soon. It is wonderful to see everyone on here, and the excellant support system.
