~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

ETNukeMom: There is really no list of things that they can take of a personal nature to A School. It is up to them to decide what they want and if they can't have something at A School, they will have to lock it up. They are normally allowed phones, laptops, ipods, etc. These can be given to them at the airports if flying out (they cannot return to RTC with anything) and it is best if they can be incorporated into their existing luggage. They will have a large seabag, garment bag (uniforms)---both checked luggage, and their carryon backpack. You can always mail them more items at A School. They sometimes like to take a few personal clothing items to wear when they have phased up in A School. But again, you can mail these later.
For those staying in GL for A School, they will move over there shortly after PIR and can return with personal items when they come back from Liberty.
Hello all. Just got my daughters letter earlier today who left 8/27 ship 11 div 407 and staying in Great Lakes for A school.
Hello everyone! I enjoyed reading all of your comments while I was waiting to get set up so I could join u! My son left on 8/27. I received form letter Saturday. He is ship 09, div 405, PIR 10/25! We made reservations at Ramada, planning to stay thru weekend as he is staying in Great Lakes for A school.
Hello All!
"Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies
and Your lovingkindness, for they are from of old."
Psalm 25:6
Ladies,
After Recruit Training Command (RTC) puts up all the divisions for this PIR, then division specific discussions will be put up above in the Discussion Forum, that way you can chat with the moms of SRs who are actually training with your SR. Always remember to post questions and general stuff here on this main page though because us veteran moms don't usually scan the division groups. With 9 PIR groups, plus the Boot Camp Moms group, we have plenty to handle!
Can anyone point me to the direction which states what we can give our Sailor after graduation and when they leave for their A school? Also, when are we allowed to give them their things?
@Fleur, I know where you are... :) I live in Citrus Heights.
@ ETNukemom
Yeah I figured and I think I will probably get a flight if I go by myself but w/ the nephew I would have to figure something else out. I live near Redding. Its a bit in the boonies.
Oh, I'm sorry tamiam! I think I would have had a meltdown too. I'm sure it is still coming. He may have had to do somthing else or had some appt to go to while they were doing their calls. I hope you hear from him soon! Hang in there.
NewbieNavyMom- No I didn't get one, I waited and watched the phone and watched the Facebook posts as they were happening, nothing :( had a pretty emotional "Mom meltdown" about it. Then I figured he would call when he could and I'm still hoping to get one!
