~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

kristn, For future reference, if you miss another phone call with an 847 area code, DO NOT CALL IT BACK. If it is an RTC phone and a RDC picks up, they will most likely ask you for your SRs name and division. I guarantee they won't go get him/her, but his/her RDC will know you have called, and so will s/he. S/he probably won't be happy about it either, IT for something like that isn't a good thing to get.

We got a call from an 847 area code the first week and I was terrified that something bad had happened.  I made my hubby call it back and it was some fraudulent collection agency.  Not cool freaking out a mama like that, dammit!

Area code 847 would be Great Lakes.

dianne & ellen: her mom got the I'm here call a while back and I've actually gotten two calls since then, the first one was on my birthday (: But they were from an 847 number so hopefully it wasn't her!

Comment by diannep on October 16, 2013 at 12:32pm

Saw that story, Torie....on Good Morning America...tears flowing down my face.  They thought he was having a seizure and tried to move his arm and he steadfastly held it there in salute.  God Bless Him!  :-)

sam:  Welcome!  I have a feeling that was not the I'm Here call since you are in the 11/08 group---that would have been received a while back...most likely was not from your SR.  Hope you get a call soon!

Comment by ellen0502 on October 16, 2013 at 11:15am

Phones calls will most likely show a caller ID of area code 847, payphone, or Gov't.  The "I Am Here" call can come from anywhere as recruits allow others to use their cell phones sometimes.

Good morning! I'm new to all this my recruit is in bc right now with div 427 and I can't wait to see her!
But does anyone know what area they'll be calling from? I missed a call from a number from Pontiac mi and I think it may have been her ):

Navy Gateway is located on A School base.  CatMom is correct....the students are not allowed at the hotel...only the new sailors with a special chit (if staying in GL for A School) are allowed to visit family there during PIR weekend...as of now, sailors still at RTC are also allowed (w/out chit) if families are there for PIR weekend.

Navy Lodge is off base and much easier to get to.  Remember, the sailors have been on a base for a long time....many welcome visiting you off base to enjoy a change of scenery!

Good Morning All !

NavyMom429.

Are you talking about the Navy Gateway?  They are stricter on who can stay there and I don't know their exact location.  Maybe another veteran mom can help you on that.

The ones diannep mentioned are very popular with past Navy families.  I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express (it had a serve yourself hot breakfast and indoor pool).  diaanep stayed at the Residence Inn which allows pets.
