OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

irishcatlover:  Could the form letter have been sent to anyone else?  They usually can only send out one, although I was told that in divorce situations, they can request a 2nd letter to mail to the other parent (but many may be afraid to ask!).  The important part of the form letter is the password used to download the gate pass necessary to drive onto RTC.  So if you don't receive it, you need to ask your SR what it is (your SR wrote it in the form letter).  The Public Affairs Office cannot help when the form letter is not received.  They will tell you to ask your SR about it  Most of the other info in the form letter is contained on this site or on the RTC site.

We got a call from our SR on Saturday which was great because that was also my husband's birthday. He said today was 3:2 for them and that he would probably not get another call til right before PIR. Guessing the "I'm a Sailor" call. He also said he got a new job. Something with weapons. Anyone know those jobs?
Comment by diannep on October 7, 2013 at 8:26am

Yes, ProudNavyMom, they get a yearly allowance for uniforms.  So eventually when that allowance comes (after bootcamp, I believe), your SR is then paid back.  That deposit during bootcamp when they take out for uniforms, their Recruit Cash Card, boots, etc...is usually pretty shocking since it is low.  But it will balance out eventually!

Good Morning All !

Thank you for the responses regarding my question when they find out when they are scheduled to fly out for A school.

Greatly appreciated!

Even though they normally do fly out sometime on Saturday there is no way to know for sure until you get to PIR. We recommend staying to Sunday if at all possible. It all depends on what flights are available at the time they book them. So you could get lucky and have an extra day with your Sailor and if not you can always do some site seeing :)

I am still having problems with the pop-ups on this site. If I click on a group a pop-up tells me I need to update my browser. I use google chrome. I tried signing out and back in but my computer told me this was an untrusted site. I ask a friend on here to try signing out and back in and her computer told her the same thing. Is anyone else having any of these problems? I think I may try to contact the admin of this site tomorrow and ask her if she has heard any of this from other people.

Great news coming out of Recruit Training Command today. Although the government shutdown and furlough continues, all civilian workers have been ordered to return to work tomorrow! It will be great to have everybody back and have the command back at full strength. See you at work in the morning!!
