For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Cynthiajb on October 9, 2013 at 10:42am: Just bought my coin from pirgifts.com for Ship 14 USS Arizona. I shopped around the Internet, and this was the best by far. I really liked the paragraph at the bottom explaining the tradition and how it will be a conversation starter for my son when displayed in his barracks. I don't know what kind of personal items they are allowed in a barracks or "dorm room" at A school, so I'm not sure how that works. Thanks for the heads-up on the coin! I ordered my ribbon, and signed-up for Sarge's Meet-and-Greet state drawing basket, anything else?

I live so close, we are just coming home for the day. He'll be so happy to see the dogs and the cat. I know he misses them so much too. One of the dogs lays in front of his room all day long! I am making a turkey dinner for him since he won't be home for Thanksgiving....

But since he will most likely be flying out on Sat., you shouldn't have a rush hour traffic issue. And if you go out there in the wee hours of the morning, when they are bussed there to wait for flights, it may be even better traffic-wise!

As far as I know, there is no required lunch after PIR. Getting together with other families and their Sailors would be totally voluntary.

Since your SR is going to A school in Pensacola, he will most likely leave out of Midway Airport. There is a small possibility he may leave out of O'Hare though, but more seem to leave out of Midway.
