Also Amanda, don't worry if you don't hear from him by phone in the first couple of days. Some sailors try to make that very important phone call, but it just doesn't go thru, or they get disconnected or something. Some don't want to call home because it's too emotional for them or just sheer exhaustion has left them pretty worn out and drained. He'll be safe, don't worry.

Welcome Amanda... This is a wise and wonderful group of women! I wish I had known about the group when my son left for bootcamp. The best thing you can do for your brother is write and send lots of cards and letters!

The first three weeks of bootcamp they really work to break them down. Don't be disheartened if you hear frustration, sadness, lonliness and more in your brothers voice when he gets his first phone call and his first letters home.

It gets better and better from there as they build a sailor! Letters and pictures (one or two) from home are the best! The guys share letters and love a good joke or story!

Hey Chirs: I'm in Nevada City, CA. Far away from everybody! An hour and a half from Chico - and hour plus a little from Reno - I'm in this group because our sailor is stationed at Bangor. This is an amazing group! Anyway, welcome. If you have a get together - maybe I can make it. I jsut found the S.Oregon/N.Ca mons - too. In the six years our sailor has been in the Navy we have been blessed to see him five times.

Connie,
Judy (shelly's mom) just shipped her daughter's car to her in WA. I believe she is a member of this group. I think she shipped it from NC - you might want to look her up and check with her.

I did not! I just sent one along to you!

Hello Connie... I think there was a mom about a page or so back that shipped a car to Bangor... maybe on the Bangor page above??? I had a car shipped from Las Vegas a couple of years back. To find a good shipper call a car dealer and ask for the fleet manager. They should be able to give you a referal.

was feeling bad that oregon moms don't get together and aren't as active as you washington moms until I checked out where in Oregon some of the members live and realized what a drive it would be, so just bless your hearts for being N4M's as we all have something in common with our loved ones!

There is a group of Washington moms that are going to Friday Harbor for the day... maybe Portland should be added to our list!

A massage is a good PIR gift! My sailor wanted to go to Walmart before we took him back and purchase two alarm clocks and an iron! This from a young man that could not find the floor of his bedroom before boot camp! Make sure you take your camera with extra batteries and lots of kleenex!

Hi Everybody: I'm so glad and jealous that you all got to hug and see eacho other. I was there in my thoughts! If we ever get the chance to come north - I'll try to see if we can plan it around a gathering. How awesome is that!
Karen: I've been checking out the site and wanted you to know that there is a group for discharged moms. I'm sure that there are many like me who want to know how things go for you guys - but I also wanted to try to find some support for all of those questions that pop into our heads for you. There is also the prayer wall and those groups.
This is an amazing place to be. Thank you all for your dedication, honesty, openess and awesome people you are. What a tremendous statement of support you each and all make! God Bless.
