MaryHelen, Just read your comment below about the one time shipment from home of record. How can I find out more info on that. I have about 10 boxes of stuff that I packed up for my daughter that I'd like to get moved to her there in WA. No way I can do this by mail or UPS. No furniture - just boxes. I don't mind having to repack anything but just need to know who/where to contact. Thank you for any assistance.

Looks like you're getting a lot of good advice, Shirley. To clarify my Mailboxes suggestion; it was intended for urgently needed/wanted items. The USPS program is awesome - you just have to wait until you have the new mailing address, which usually takes several days while they get settled in at "A" school...

Shirley,
There's no way to get anything to the recruits prior to PIR; the females were able to retain a limited stash of cosmetics for photos and PIR, though. That policy is covered in the link at the end of my post. I suspect that if female recruits didn't bring these items to BC, that they can get them at the NEX prior to PIR. After PIR, I know some parents were successful in discretely slipping their graduating recruits their cell phones for after they leave RTC. Know that they are still banned at RTC, even after grad though, and especially if they foolishly use them at RTC, they risk losing them and disciplinary action. Probably the best way to get personal items to a recruit as soon as possible after BC is once you know where they're headed next, go to a Mailboxes Etc. (or the like) and see what location they have near the next duty station; then see if you can ship it there in your recruit's name for them to pick up after arrival. Enjoy PIR next weekend, it'll be a great time - the community around there is very supportive of the Navy and the graduating recruits.

Anna, Yes, for all the wonderful things about the Pacific Northwest, it is a long, long way from anywhere back east - especially when you're aching to impart a little parental wisdom. Best wishes to you and your family, it sounds like you and your husband are awesome parents.

Mark and TK - thanks for the updated info about this area. My husband and I don't golf now but we've talked about learning. I really wish I could come up there to visit my daughter. I feel like I need to sit down and talk to her face to face about some decisions she's making. It's tough having her so far away!!

Agreed it was great to meet and great the West Side moms today! We chatted about our kids and it was fun putting faces and names together! We are looking forward to meeting again!

Welcome Donnamae! Check into the Whidbey Island Mom discussion listed at the top of this page... There are several navy bases here in Washington and we started discussion for each base.

Indeed Anna we have lots of natural beauty here! Lots of seasons and (don't pass it along) we don't get as much rain as most folks think! It does rain lots, but those of us in the northwest learn to deal with drizzle!

Anna, One other thing Trevor's Mom missed in her pitch - if your husband is a golfer, Kitsap county has some of the best, most spectacular and most affordable golf in the country. We golfers around here are spoiled rotten.

Thanks TK!! We have a family joke about Starbucks! My daughters and I love Starbucks and my husband jokes that it's evil. I always make sure we let him know where every Starbucks is we find. Now I can tell him I NEED to go to Washington to visit Catherine!!! OH and the rest of the state sounds great too!! he he :)

Good Afternoon! Just joined this group in response to a invite from Marie. I have a daughter stationed at Kitsap at the PSD and I live in Ohio. I have never been to Washington and know just about nothing about the state!!! My daughter says it's beautiful and seems to love it there! She's been there since the beginning of November.
