Have you heard about the "Blue Candle Lighting" being scheduled on Christmas Day? It is a way to honor those Sailors that will not be home for Christmas. What a nice tribute to our Sailors!

Please go to Events and click on Blue Candle Lighting, we are tracking how many candles will be lit in our Sailors' honor and where you are located.

Let's do this in our "Navy for Moms" style - can we get 9000 plus candles lit on Christmas Day?!!

Dear Washington/Oregon Moms,
I left this post at "Holiday Home for Sailors," but I thought I'd leave it here too.

Hi, Ladies... I would be so very, very grateful for someone to have my son in their home at Christmas. He's a Nuke on the ALABAMA sub (Kitsap) and will be on cruise very soon. However, the Captain promised them a few days near the 25th in port, after which they will deploy again until March (so no time to come home). Also his birthday is Dec. 15th. These are the second (IN A ROW!) birthdays and Christmases he hasn't been home, and he's only been in for two years.

Son's girlfriend gave him the "need space - just be friends" talk on the day before Thanksgiving. So he spent the day alone and has called me in tears several times since... homesick and broken-hearted over his first love. He's my "still water that runs deep" and he really needs some mothering.

I don't know what else to mention... he loves baseball, history, Star Wars, and Eddie Izzard. He's also an Eagle Scout who loves the outdoors and camping (been to Philmont). Thanks for being there... Kaye

Have your son check with his unit on base. They usually send someone just arriving... I wanted to pick up my son from the airport but his squadron had someone picking he and another sailor up. I would volunteer to pick him up but we will be out of town... Please let him know there are Navy Moms here if he needs us!

Hello all!
My son is stationed on Whidbey... He says they 'shut the base down' when there is more than an inch of snow on the ground. They close most of the gates and really discourage traffic of any type. The entire Northwest 'shuts down' when we get hit with snow. We have many hills and turns on our roads and a four wheel 'go' vehicle does not have the stopping power until it hits another car or tree.
If you have a sailor stationed here in the Northwest Under Armor is a fantastic gift. Sailors working outdoors are allowed to wear it under their uniform/work coveralls if it is a crew neck. There are different types of under armor- look for the winter gear... It keeps the heat in as well as wicks away the sweat.
Remind your sailor to check their cars anti freeze. Most of them are not driving brand new vehicles and forget to check their fluids before a freeze.
Stay warm and safe!

I know I posted this before, but that was all the songs on You Tube for Joni Harms. I did find out she is from Canby, Oregon. I know C & W isn't every ones cup of tea, but I really like her.
Her my space is
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=422952760
but she has oodles more songs on you tube if you search for Joni Harms.
PS Where is my Under the Radar friend lately, still studying?

wow, where were you guys like 4 years ago when my son was just starting out in BC and everything was so brand new and scary for me letting my son go and not knowing then what seems ordinary now, but this is soooo great, he's signed on for another 6 years and it just seems to get better every day as he's married now with my grandson who just turned a year old and another on the way in May, they just moved to San Diego and he's presently on the Nimitz, so hello laDIES!

I have been reading some of the comments online. I think we share a lot of similar feelings. Molly the Snipe Mom's comment about wanting her son to were his uniform when he comes home and the thought of someone thanking him for serving touched me. When my son was home on leave and was wearing civilian clothes people would come up to him and ask if he is in the military then thank him for serving. It made me shed a few tears.

Hi Angie,
My vote is to take the ferry to Whidbey Island and drive out from the north end and come back around to the I-5 south. I loved it up north on a recent visit there. My favorite part was the ferry to the island and Pike's Clam Chowder! :)

Teresa, I asked someone who posted Joni Harms videos where she was from, and he said she was born in Canby, Oregon. She's a new find for me, I like at least 5 of her songs on you tube. That must be why she does the summer festivals there. I like people to introduce me to new music to check out! Thanx.

WEll, I drink my husbands Brazilian coffee every morning. Its like having 6 small demitasse cups of espresso! Can you say BUZZ BUZZ.
I may be mistaken about Joni. It says she played in Canby, Oregon at a summer festival, so I thought she was from there. Someone just recently introduced me to her music. Its like swing, waltzes, C & W.
I like most ALL music.
