Yes, that would be fine, navymomjulie.

What about dress for men?  My husband is not the type to wear dress pants unless it is for church.  Are nice jeans and a nice shirt ok for men to wear?

Navy Wife- My daughter told us in her last letter to dress nicely but casually. She said one of her RDC's told them that people have shown up in bathing suits under tank tops! Not the Navy's idea of casual!  I figure "work casual". Slacks and a blouse works for me!

Yep, I agree, Lala!  :-)

Good morning everyone.  Have a wonderful day!

Now that is a sale I would like to go to lol

...hmmmm....I'm thinking....there must be a RTC "garage sale" held every so often with all of the STUFF that they finally can retrieve that fell through the bleachers!  Kinda like the airlines selling luggage that wasn't claimed!   :-)

It's great that so many are getting letters!  And I am sure for others waiting that the letters are on their way!  I can hardly wait until PIR 11/10/2011!!!!!!  I appreciate all the helpful hints everyone has been sharing, too.  Hang in there everyone....we are on the downhill slide now:)

I got a letter too :) Makes going to the mailbox worthwhile again. My son is the mail guy (just like my first son)

Navy Wife - There are not as many divisions as with my first son, so I don't think it will be as crowded, I myself didn't mind sitting up in the bleachers because you can see more. And it wasn't too bad going back down after they called Liberty. Depending on how far your hotel is from PIR would determine the time you should leave, 6:00 am should give you plenty of time, since there will be a a good bit of traffic. However, the guys and girls directing traffic have done this every week forever and they have a good system, there wasn't any real back ups.

Last PIR - we saw people overdressed, casual dressed, and just dressed. I think the letter said dress casual was preferred, you are proud of your sailor, make them proud of you too :)

It was comfortable inside the building (we went in Aug) wasn't too hot or cold. Hoping the cold, cold weather holds out until after graduation though. This FL girl doesn't do well with the cold weather! They did announce to not set anything down, like FireTeam stated, if it falls through..consider it gone!

I can't wait to meet everyone and see my son :)

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on October 15, 2011 at 4:03am

I sat near the top on the bleachers great view...got an end seat too as I hate to climb over people. Couldn't just sit there, had to walk around...and I don't know WHAT was up but we were HOT at PIR. It was end of May (it rained) but even then people have always reported being cold!

I still brought a shawl that I could fold up and sit on...behind gets cold on metal benches and just seeps in!

Don't set anything down on the bench that is thin like a camera, cell phone, etc. The floors of the bleachers are solid except underneath the seats there are openings just wide enough and about a foot (?) long for modern day devices to fall through...it is like a black hole...you won't get it back.

I used carabiners on my purse to attach things too. Don't forget binos if you have them!

Oh and they sell the Sailors hat (mens style), aka lid, aka "dixie cup" in a kiddie size for $5. They'll want to wear mommy's or daddy's and this is not allowed.
