Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by diannep on October 11, 2011 at 8:50am: Yes, NavyWife. The GL A School students usually move over there right after PIR and you pick them up later in the afternoon. If you drive to PIR, just get a very early start. By 6 a.m, be in the car line.

Comment by jrunner163 on October 11, 2011 at 8:43am: We are staying at the Ramada Inn Waukegan. We thought it would be the easiest choice since the Meet & Greet is there on Wednesday night. The rate was $79 and they have a shuttle to the PIR on Thursday.

Comment by NavyWife&Mom1 (Ship 7 Div 371) on October 11, 2011 at 8:23am: Im torn on whether to stay at the red carpet inn (a motel, with a shuttle 1 mile away) or stay at LaQuinta Inn (a hotel with a pool but no shuttle, 8 miles away). My husband is staying in Great Lakes for A school so I know I wont get to see him for a while after his graduation because they make move there stuff over. Is that correct??We may drive but Im afraid how bad traffic is going to be.

I also like the fact about the free shuttle! Less confusion for my husband. He doesn't drive well in heavy traffic:)

Comment by Sandy's_sailor son on October 11, 2011 at 3:55am: navymomjulie, we stayed at the Ramada Inn. It is not a new hotel or in a great area but they treated us very well. Lots of families from our PIR group stayed there and we had a great time. The hotel provided a free breakfast every morning and their staff were great. They also have a free Shuttle service to PIR.
