Oh, and in a PST, both males and females have the same requirements. So the girls have to be able to hang with the boys in the AIRR and Diver ratings
Comment by Jimbo on October 7, 2011 at 1:08am

In order to be part of a special ops rating, you must complete the Physical Screening Test Requirements. For AIRR, my daughter must:

  • Swim 500 yards in 12 minutes
  • Run 1.5 miles in 12 minutes or less
  • Perform 42 push-ups in 2 minutes
  • Perform 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes
  • Perform four pull-ups
  • Pass a Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL BUD/S physical fitness screening test in Boot Camp and in the Delayed Entry Program (DEP) in order to qualify

The PFA is similar but is less intense and based on age.The requirements are here: http://www.navy-prt.com/malestandard/malestandard.html.

He should have up to Battle Stations to complete it. Or they might send him into the FIT program. Just tell him, "I already bought the tickets, recruit. You WILL pass the run!"

Invisible12, Once Sailors graduate from boot camp. They take the PFA once a year.  In boot camp they have 3 PFA. One for Swimming + baseline. The second PFA is around week 3. The final PFA is during the last 2 weeks of boot camp.

When my son was in boot camp he failed the second PFA (around week 3). Although the second PFA does not count. The RDCs make the recruits think it does.  Did your son fail the swimming? Or the 2nd PFA?

What's the difference betwen PST and PFA?  My son didn't mention PST and he failed his PFA.  How many times do they retake the PFA?

nbrothers:  They should be in week 2 or 3 of training depending on the division

My Sr dose not know if he passed or not, they didn't tell him..so I guess I wont find out until his next letter, however he did pass his swimming and his first inspection with flying colors he said, just wondering about the PST thing? Also he said they were starting weapon training this week.

My SR said in our 15 min. call last Saturday, that she missed her pay increase PST by 30 seconds:(  She has huge blisters on her heels so I am sure that didn't help. She said that they do not get to do another PST for the increase.  Bummer! all i care is that she graduates.  I am proud of her no matter what!  From what I have read, they have until week six to pass their PST in order to be eligible for BS21.

nbrothers - My daughter arrived on the 8th, but her first P-day wasn't until the 15th.  You should ask you child to tell you what day of the week and what week/day she is in on her next letter/phone call.  For Div 367 it is week 3, day 1 today.  Their weeks start on Thursday.
Comment by tripletmom+2 on October 6, 2011 at 9:04pm
I am so confused about the "weeks".  My daughter arrived in GL on 9-20-11. I understand the first 5 days to week are paperwork and medical stuff.  Do we count that week when figuring which week they are on? I was figuring her to be on day 2 of week 3.  Am I correct?
