The 2 week mark

Perry has been away at boot camp 2 weeks today! The past two weeks have definitely been trying. I'm not used to being without him and I'm definitely not used to not hearing from him for so long. Prior to this we never went over 24 hours without at least a phone call. I miss him terribly but its funny how the little things now mean so much more.

Before boot camp, if Perry left me a little note, I would think it was sweet and I'd smile. Now, getting that form letter with four lines, just… Continue

Questions - Nuclear Sub School

Can anyone shed some light on a situation for me? My son was in Nuclear Sub school and didn't pass a couple of his test, so they have him on restriction. He says they are moving him out of Nuclear Subs to something else, but he is not sure. Has anyone else gone through this with their child or themselves? Will he be out of Subs totally and sent to fleet? Help.

Proud

Hello! I'm so proud of my son just received letters 7 and 8 . I only got one phone call, but he offered no complaints on the phone or in a letter. That makes me so proud of him. He could say lots of bad stuff I guess but he said mom it's only 8 weeks and it's not that bad as long as you don't talk. I was expecting at least one complaint. But all is well and he is doing well. What more could I ask for.Now waiting for BS test can't wait for the I'm A SAILOR call.I pray everyone does well on there… Continue

at the April 2nd Graduation...

Wow, that was a bonafide patriotic and prideful ceremony befitting a young recruit and their families and friends! I enjoyed the entire weekend mingling with my own family as well as other recruits' families.

It was also a walk down memory lane being at Great Lakes again. It' been 43 years since brother and husband graduated from the NRTC.

Congratulations to all 500+ sailors who graduated last Friday! You all have made your families and friends proud.

From Boot Camp to School

I am extremely proud of my son. Boot Camp has really made a change in him from spoiled dependant to an independent young man. It left me speehless and observing the new growth and development in him. All I can say is THANK YOU to all who are helping develope the minds and character of our young men and women. Now he's off to school. I would have preferred he come home first. But, things are no longer Mothers way. LOL... Besides, I'm loving the new him

The Biggest Gift

Words seem inadequate at times like this. How many times or in how many ways can you say, "I love you, Son," or "I'm so proud of you, Babe" and feel that you've said it enough? To ask it is to answer it; because you know that it's never enough.

But what about the words, "Thank you?" Two words that everyone appreciates hearing. Yet I have to ask myself, "Will the one receiving my appreciative words truly know just how blessed they have made my… Continue

Navy Wedding Vows very Comical

True Vows

Dear family and friends, we are gathered here today in the sight of God and the Department of the Navy, to witness this exchange of vows, and see the love that these two dedicated, loving people have for one another.

"Wilt thou, __________, take ___________ as your dependent, to dwell together in so far as the Department of the Navy will permit? Wilt thou love her, comfort her via the postal service, E-mail, or over the phone, make sure she knows where the…

A Hole In Our House

That's the only way to explain it... a hole in our house... a vacuum... a black hole where Erik's being was. It's difficult to wrap your heart around it really.

I find myself seeking... seeking... seeking... watching, looking, probing for something that will jump out at me and say, "Erik is here; feel his presence." But it doesn't come. I "see" him around town, I "hear" his 4Runner drive up our street nightly. I hear his footfalls on the steps… Continue

IKE

I have both my son and daughter in Navy and any time I hear something went wrong I get a big ball of nerves in my stomach. My daughter is on the IKE and I wondered why I have not heard from her. My prayers and condolences for airman and family.

Graduation Stress

My daughter is set to grad. bc and I cant get on the site from her letter to see if it is still going to be the same date since she didnt start on time because she was waiting for the rest of her group. Its not until the end of the month. I dont know if I should just go ahead and make my hotel reservations. Also does anybody know if its ok to have 6 people instead of 4 when you check in at the graduation ceremony. Im stressing big time because both sets of grandparents want to be there.
