First Week

Well today marks the "full" 1 week for my son to be gone.  There was a sales rep that came in today asking about him and when he was leaving.  I had to tell her it was 1 week to the day.  I'm proud of myself, I didn't lose it when she started talking about him.  I've gotten to the part that I'm just ready to get his address to mail my letters.  I think the other thing that has helped is writing to him…

One Month In

My baby girl has been gone for one month and it is still hard but each time we talk or read a letter you see and hear the growth that she is making.  She left me a month ago a little girl and she is growing into that mature young adult that I knew she would.

She has always been very mature but she is understanding now that she is mature.  I think it was just ingrained and she took it for granted.   I hope she will always love and believe in Unicorns and not lose that little girl…

MEP'S SAN DIEGO - DELAYED SHIP

MEP’S San Diego…. For my son MEP’S was a little different than most people’s experience, because he was a delay ship (it was about 6 months from the day he visited the recruit), and he lives in the same city as MEP’S.  My son’s MEP’s experience was stretched into two full days and one half day.

If you plan to join your son/daughter I would suggest you plan for an all day events.  They will feed your recruit in the cafeteria area, but I would suggest you bring sandwiches, snacks and…

Back to work

Well, I went back to work today, I did better than I expected.  I updated everyone and I only teared up once and didn't start crying.  BIG step.  It helped to stay busy at work so I wouldn't have to sit around and think about it.

I just hate waiting for the "letter", I'm ready to start sending my…

Hi, I am a new Navy mom.  My son's first day was yesterday at Navy OCS in Providence, RI.  How do I get an address to mail him letters and packages?  And when can I begin sending him mail?  When will he be able to make his first phone call home?  When will they return his cell phone? Please help.

Thank you so much!

Where did the time go??????

My son is leaving in 10 days to boot camp. It came by way too fast. Just been trying to have a lot of good quality time with him before he leaves. Me and his dad are going to miss him extremely. He's such a great young man. He wants this so bad. And he's nervous and excited for this journey ahead. I plan on coming on here a lot to get support and the info I need to plan our trip to see him graduate in October!!

Hi, I'm new to the blog and just wanted to say how very proud I am of my daughter Jacqueline Wilson, she will be graduating August 16th and I'm very excited to see her. I'm told she will be carrying a flag in the ceremony. She is DIV 310 so if there is anyone else that has a son/daughter in that DIV let me know.

Excellent Travel Service with US Airways

I want to share what an excellent experience my sailor son received from US Airways.  My father (his grandfather) passed early last Sunday morning and my son (just out of boot camp on July 12 and at A school at Great Lakes) was granted leave for a week to be with family and attend the memorial service.  He and my father were very close so he wanted to be with our family as soon as he could get there.  We began looking for flights for the same afternoon/evening and the cheapest we were…

letters home

Well,
I'm about as new as they come. My son left Tuesday from Louisiana. As we sit here watching rerun after rerun I find myself wondering what he's doing at this very moment. We rec'd his belongings in much less time than what was expected. My question is should we expect a letter within the next few days to give us his address so we can keep in contact with him?

Graduation Butterflies As Time Draws Near - PIR 08/23/2013

Hallelujah!  2 1/2 weeks till Graduation for PIR 08/23/2013.  Life is not a race - but indeed a journey.  In Isaiah we read - "Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles".   I pray the peace of God be with my Sr as he begins this new journey to greater and more glorious things.”  He will spread his wings to heights unknown.  Always in my heart, mind and soul he will forever remain where ever he may go, where ever he may be.  19 days from…

One day at a time

I know that this will be hard and I can accept that, but there are those moments that you just want to break down & cry.  I know it will get easier but still hard right now.  I could have strangled my son yesterday, I went to his bathroom and there were 5 LOADS of laundry - REALLY but I guess I shouldn't expect anything different.

I…

Do Not Remove Permanent Retainer

Our recruiter, who also checked with his  Chief, told us to have our sons permanent retainer removed (you know the one they get after braces).  He saw the Navy Dentist at boot camp and come to find out, he did not have to have it removed.  I looked this question up before we had it removed and I could not find anything.  OH well, once he gets to A school he can have one put back in- provided my son remembrs to do just that (and finds the time).  How can we spread…

Going Away Party for Our Recruit

We had a wonderful "Going Away Party" for our son. We were lucky to have his party right before the 4th of July so we found all kinds of American decorations. My favorite was the Navy flag I found online which ended up being the backdrop to all the friends and family (over 100 people) to stand in front of for pictures. I then got all the pictures and make a book which I am…
