Christmas ideas

Hello,

My son is in the dep program and he doesn't leave for basic training until July 30 2013. I'm looking for gift ideas that he would need after basic. I don't want to buy him"stuff" that he's not going to use. Can anyone help me out? Is an iPad or iPod a good or terrible idea?

Thanks!!

NEED ADVICE - SON BOOTED 3 HRS AGO ONLY GONE 4 DAYS

I got a call from my son for the same thing 3 hours ago.  He told his recruiter the truth about EVERYTHING and she told him to put NO on everything...filling it out one question at a time with her. Then she instructed him to say NO when asked at his last chance to come clean.  None of that felt right to him, but the recruiter pushed him and his friends to all do the same thing so they wouldn't be held back for what she said would be a ridiculous length of time.  SIGH...  This is…

Another week has gone by without receiving the "letter" so sought after. It's rather amazing that I've almost went through 2 books of stamps. I have taken the advice of others and began printing out one page that contains the a week in review of the news, a comic or two and a picture of something from home, be it our dog tillie so he can see how big she is growing,…

Well the family and I are here at the Ramada in Waukegan and will be going to the meet and greet with the other families soon. On the way here we met a few familes at rest stops that were headed this way as well lol. One more day, just one more day and I get to see him. I am so proud of my son!! He is worried we will not be able to find him but we have reassured him that it will not be a problem.

The Third Navy Thanksgiving Memory

I've done two already, this is yet one more ... bumping it up for the holiday.

I was in C school, down at Fort Gordon, near Augusta, Georgia. Very strange being in the small Navy Det on an Army base! We were a tight bunch of sailors, even liked the sailors we didn't like. Which makes no sense, but you have to have been there to get that.

One of the gals, a good friend of mine in the same class, was a Georgia native. Her mom and dad had a farm between Augusta and…

Another Navy Thanksgiving memory

I was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan at the Communications Station. Many of us in the ET shop were very good friends, along with some of the radiomen from tech control and even one of the young ensigns. Yes, she wasn't supposed to "fraternize" with us enlisted pukes, but hey, young men and women like to hang out with each other!

Most of the married sailors either had tiny Japanese apartments or were flying home for Turkey Day, so inviting us all was a problem. We all wanted to be…
