Note to self---Invest in a clock that is set up to reflect sandbox time and date rather than central standard time

Acck @ 10.5 hour time difference.Sometimes I get confused when my deployed Sea Bee contacts me.

Seems I'm not exactly sure when we are relaying events to each other what is really today, or yesterday, or gosh maybe it's tomorrow already? When my daughter says she's going to call tomorrow. That means tomorrow in her time zone NOT mine. It could mean she's calling me again today in my time zone, or 2 days from now in my time zone depending on what time it is there when we are speaking.…

Friday

My son is gone and I feel so empty. I tried to say anything and everything I could to him, before he left, yet I can't help but wonder if I said too much or too little. I miss him so much! After he swore in, we went and ate lunch (without him of course) while waiting for him to depart. There was a Burker King on the base, so we ate there. They were giving away these BK Bobblehads that you can't get anywhere else. I have taped a photo of my son over the King's face and now have a bobblehead…

no letter ):

no letters today....I was hoping to get at least one from one of my son's.
But hopefully I will get them tomorrow. I am getting so excited about seeing J on 12-17, we are almost finished with this chapter.
Its so hard not getting to talk to him everyday. But I am still so proud of him! I feel so sad for my oldest son, he will have to stay in GL without his family for Christmas):

Where to stay for Graduation?

Has anyone stayed at the Americas Value? Is it decent? We want somewhere that is close to graduation but within walking distance to restaurants etc? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Number of Family members at PIR ???

I know that the recruits can only add four names to the list of people attending PIR . However, I have read on other sites that more than that may attend but have to wait in the lobby until the PIR ceremony staarts. Then if there are seats available they let them in. Is this true? We have three extras (grandparents and a cousin) that would like to attend and are planning on buying plane tickets within the next few days. Are they wasting their money? I am planning on us all arriving in one… Continue

Graduation

Hi Everyone,

My son will be graduating soon from boot camp. Can anyone give me any information regarding decent hotels in the area of the base, as well as rental cars, or shuttles from the hotels to the base? We have the brochure that was sent to us, but was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations.

Thanks in advance

Tuesday

Well tomorrow is the big day - the day my son is left in the hands of the Navy, to begin the adventure of his life. I'm proud, anxious, excited, and miserable all at the same time. I will miss him so much. Christmas and New Years will be difficult. I know everything he is about to experience, will be worth the sacrifice. He is going to accomplish great things and become part of a huge family. What brave children we all have. They are giving up everything in order to protect all of us and…

unsettling feelings

I cant help but think what if. I know he's safe and I know he will be back but... what if???? there are so many possibilities and I just cant shut my brain up. I have no idea what any of this is like. Ive been aboard 1 ship and it was cold and dark and cramped and looked like no fun. How am I supposed to think about how they are enjoying themselves when all I can imagine is "if i were stuck there for however many months I'd go crazy!"

I'm tired and hungry and cant seem to get into a…

I am back from Graduation!

OMG! so much to tell everyone. First, if you are going to spend some time in Chicago, don't drive. Chicago has NO parking at all. If you do drive, make sure you set a side parking money. It is expensive and make sure you read the parking signs.

Graduation was awesome. All the sailors did a great job. We got to spend 21/2 days with my son. The weather got bad so we didn't go to far. Gurnee is a great city to find good eats. Lots of shopping and spending time together. My sailor, moved…

Just Back from PIR

For all you moms waiting for PIR, let me tell you it is absolutely the best day of your lives and worth every anxious second you have spent worrying if your son or daughter would get to that day. It is a wonderful, moving ceremony especially when the divisions come in. And the performing units are fantastic. Just a few helpful hints for those getting ready to make plans. We stayed in Gurnee which is just two exits off 94 from the base. It has a mall, movie theatre, plenty of hotels and… Continue

Tis the season to be jolly.....or deployed

Shame on the whiners and complainers at the airport this morning. The handful of young men and women that TSA passed through the line without making them wait aren't going on vacation. They're deploying on their very first mission away from home. What a way to send off our military by screaming at them how much longer YOU waited in line. Guess who will be defending… Continue
